Primary School

Last week we welcomed Mr Alan Davidson to the Year 5 and Year 6 classrooms to teach us all how to correctly tie a tie! With wonderful enthusiasm, Mr Davidson entered the classrooms with his collection of 200 ties. By the end of the lesson, we had close to 100 students competently tying their own tie with perfect knots, nested beneath their collars. We all loved listening to the stories behind some of the ties in his colourful collection and we appreciated his patience and scaffolded instructions.

Mr Davidson left his tie collection, and it has been great to see some of the students practising their skills when they had a spare moment. The Year 5 and 6 students should be complimented on the way they have transitioned into their winter uniform. Thank you, Mr D, for being a big part of this process.

Investigating fibres with Mrs Turner

Students in Year 6 started their new science topic ‘Materials, Properties and Uses’ this week, by looking through a microscope and learning to draw scientifically using several fibres. These fibres including silk, cotton, wool, paper and nylon are used every day in many ways. Once students have a microscopic understanding of the structure of these fibres, they will design experiments to further explore the fibres suitability for various purposes. Furthermore, our students are using their imagination to visualise the smallest unit of matter, the atom. The use of their imagination is important in forming a foundation which will assist their understanding of their material world.

Primary Assembly

On Friday 26 April, the Primary School community connected at the Primary Assembly. I would like to congratulate Sophie Millar and Hugh Thomson, for confidently running the Assembly. We enjoyed beautiful performances on piano from Quinny Knowles-Mulholland who played ‘Ode to Joy’, Sophie McKee who played ‘New Orleans Tribute’ and Darcy Knowles-Mulholland who played 'Happy Blues'.

During the Year 4 performance, students showcased poems, songs, and data graphs, illustrating their plants' growth from science lessons. They also shared stories, poems and observations about what they learned, offering a diverse and informative look into their plant's life. Mrs Pedrana shared the exciting Term 2 Co-Curricular opportunities and Term 2 calendar of events and Mr Harris provided an update about the ‘Take 3 Challenge’. We look forward to our next Assembly on Friday 24 May when the Year 1 students will perform for us.

Congratulations to the students below who received a Core Value Award for consistently displaying one or more of the School’s Core Values and Motto. Keep up the great work!

Stage 1 Assembly

This week, students in Stage 1 attended their Stage Assembly, hosted by 2A. The students presented a snapshot of their learning in Term 2 so far. They explained what they had learnt about ‘Ancestors’ in History and Geography and ‘Reflections’ in Art. There was even time for a quick Q&A about the recent Cross Country event. Ms Gregory introduced Ada Bourke, a Year 11 student from Birchip P-12 School in Victoria who completed her five-day work experience at our school this week. Staff then presented the ‘Stars of the Week’ to the worthy winners. There were plenty of smiles and laughter throughout the Assembly.

Well done to Shriya Rayas, Flynn Alder, Chad McKee, Dakota Patten, Sadie Grant, Audrey Watson, Noah Davidson and Molly Mitchell. The Assembly concluded with a lively game of Celebrity Heads, bringing smiles and laughter to all.

Da Vinci Decathlon Regionals

On Wednesday 1 May at 4:30am, 16 students from Year 5 and Year 6, along with Mrs Rykers and Miss Briggs travelled to The Riverina Anglican College in Wagga Wagga to compete in the Da Vinci Decathlon Regionals. It was a busy day with lots of great challenges along the way and some amazing results. The Year 6 team scored first place in engineering, second place in cartography and legacy and third in codebreaking resulting in an overall third place. The Year 5 team came second in science, codebreaking, ideation and third in cartography, mathematics, english and engineering.

Year 6 team: Ted Palmer, Charlie Palmer, Oliver Knight, Hugh Thomson, Alex Woods, Scarlette Roberts, Vihara Konara and Ruby Law.

Year 5 team: Eli O’Sullivan, Kusali Gamage, Lily Watson, Isabelle Davidson, Isabelle Townrow, Aiden Thompson, Alby Bull and Julie Tran.

Art Room Spotlight

Let's celebrate the amazing achievements of our Year 2 artists! In recent weeks, they've been busy exploring the colourful world of acrylic paints, drawing inspiration from the wonderful artwork of Australian artist Anya Brock. Guided by her iconic budgie paintings, our students have created their own stunning masterpieces, carefully considering warm and cool colour palettes to bring their feathered friends to life. With practised precision using size 0 paint brushes, they've perfected fine line application, adding depth and detail to their creations. Congratulations to our talented Year 2 artists for their dedication and creativity!
