Year 2 Spotlight

Community Walk

As part of our school's PYP transdisciplinary theme 'How We Organise Ourselves', Year 2 students have begun inquiring into why people use different forms of transport for different reasons. Why transport is needed to connect communities as well as why there are different modes of transport will be the driving inquiry questions throughout the unit.

To provoke the students into noticing the different forms of transport, we all enjoyed a walk around our local community.

During the walk, students followed this map and noticed modes of transport that went past.

When on Glen Huntly Rd, students and their parent/teacher helper, asked a person in the community questions about their transport use. Lastly, after a long walk we arrived at Booran Reserve. After a snack and a play at the park, the students collected data of the number of the different types of transport that passed the park.

Swimming

Last week, the Year 2s completed their last Junior Swimming program with a splash! In addition to brushing up on their swimming skills and showing great maturity when being in the community the students learnt some great swimming survival skills.

Pool-side rescues, treading water and calling out for help were some of the new skills the students gained.
