Green Machine Update

Green machine has worked hard during term one. So far we have rejuvenated the plants back to their natural state after a dry summer holiday, and planted new succulents in hopes of selling them soon. We have also started on assembly speeches, rubbish collection (it was shocking how much rubbish was scattered around our school). We have worked on the compost, posters and maintaining the bamboo forest. We would like to remind all pupils to not litter and not waste food, energy or water.

Our future plans for Green machine for the year are to look at ways we can reduce energy with the possibility of getting some solar panels to save electricity.  Another one of our main goals is to protect the plants and to plant some native and diverse species.

Each school week Green Machine hosts the nude food competition. We encourage everybody to try and bring in as little packaging as possible. We also have this rule where if you do bring packaging, you have to take it home. At assembly each week the class with the most  nude food is declared the winner of the week and the class gets a certificate and the nude food cape (though the cape has to be returned by the next week). A way parents can help out with our nude food goals is to not use single-use plastic as often and try to only use multi-use containers. Please also ask your children to take home the single-use plastic in their lunchboxes and not to dispose of it at our school.

Reminders

  • Our E-waste bin is always in the year 6 end of the SLC if you have any electronics that you don't want any more please put them in the box to be recycled.
  • Make sure you have nude food in your lunchboxes to help the environment and to win the Nude Food award.
  • Please be conscious of your energy usage in these cooler and darker months. Remember to turn off lights and heating when it isn’t needed (or when you can do without).

Thanks for reading and remember… STAY GREEN!
