Principals Report

Education Week
This week we celebrated Education Week. The theme, Spotlight on STEM, celebrates the importance of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in our everyday lives, in the classroom and beyond.
During STEAM classes in Education Week, the focus has been on the importance of STEAM Learners/Careers in the future. STEAM Classes will be a celebration for STEAM during Education Week.
It has also been a great opportunity for parents/carers to come into classrooms and celebrate their child’s/children’s learning.
THANK YOU EDUCATION SUPPORT STAFF
Thursday the 16th May is Education Support Appreciation Day. We take this opportunity to acknowledge the huge contribution that Education Support staff make to our Wales Street Primary School team.
Thank you to our Office Admin Team:
Pina, Lisa & Shannon
These are our super friendly and organised faces of our school. They are not only the first point of contact with our community but also provide our whole school community with the support and care across first aid and everything from A-Z…Accounts Payable to Zones (Prep & Year 6-7 Transition!).
Thank you to our team who support teaching & learning:
Sallie, Carlene, Donna, Michelle, Amaya, Fifi, Cangie, Mercedes & Rose.
Our team of Teaching & Learning Education Support personnel all work tirelessly to ensure students are given every opportunity to learn and participate with their peers. These staff make such a big impact on our students through strong connections and positive relationships.
Thank you to our Wellbeing Education Support personnel, Skye and Suzi, who support the students, teachers and families socially, emotionally & medically
Thank you to all members of our Education Support team for your work to support our whole school community. We can’t thank you enough!
Mother’s Day
It is my sincere hope that everyone had a lovely day on last Sunday for Mother’s Day. I hope that everyone had a day of love, warmth and support on Sunday. The school received some lovely feedback from the community regarding the Mother’s Day and special person’s stall. The student’s love the opportunity to personally buy a gift. Thank you to Paul and his team for their hard work in making this special activity happen once again.
URSTRONG
This new social skills and friendship program has commenced across the school this term.
So far I have received great reviews from teachers with student’s having open & honest robust discussions about their experiences in using this program in the classroom. They have also said that students are starting to use the language from the program. We have been placing posters up around the school and are getting outdoor posters put up near playgrounds at the moment. This is so students have a point of reference when needed to help students navigate friendship fires.
Next week is the parent & child workshop via zoom on Wednesday 22nd May @ 6:30pm. We are very excited about this event. It will give parents the same language to use as the teachers & students. This school/home partnership will really support the students with strategies they need to navigate the ebb & flow of friendships. Please note that it is important that your child/children attend this session with you.
Principal Morning Tea
On Thursday 13th June come and join our Principal team in the staffroom @ 9:00am for a cuppa. This is an opportunity to help keep you in the loop with things that are happening across our school. It is also a forum to ask questions, provide feedback and suggestions and continue to build our strong home school partnership.
Luisa, Louise & myself look forward to meeting you.
Kiss & Go Zone
A reminder that the 'Kiss & Go' zones are for parents & carers to pull up and drop their children off. This is not an area to park your car and come into the school. Parents rely on these spaces for a quick drop off and get away so please use these spaces as they are intended for.
Please be aware that council parking officers are monitoring these parking areas.
Planned Maintenance Works
We have some maintenance works starting next week. A builder's compound was erected today near the fete shed and the Speight St fence. Last year we had a rolling facilities audit completed and we received a detailed report on the facilities of our school and what condition they are in. The builders are working through our list of priority 1 and 2 defects, which includes painting, fixing windows and other woodwork, small areas of asphalt and various other issues. The site manager has made it clear that their workers are instructed not to engage in conversations with the students. We will also be letting the students know that they are not to go up to them and have a chat. This is to ensure everyone's safety. I will keep you posted about this project.
