Message from the Principal

Dear Parents and Caregivers,

Thank you for your support over the past week as we navigate the tragic loss of Mr David Peckham, one of our Year 2 teachers. During times like this, it is heartening to witness the solidarity of our Clayfield community as we come together to support one another. Our staff are grateful for the words of comfort and encouragement you have shared in the wake of the sudden loss of a cherished colleague.

My particular thanks to the Year 2 families who shared the news with their children over the weekend. Recognising that each child will respond to and process grief differently, I encourage you to maintain open lines of communication with us so that we can continue to provide support to you and your child. A reminder that you can access some grief resources at the link below, including the contact details of support services. In addition, if you require further information on how to best support your children, please do not hesitate to contact our Chaplain, Reverand Paul Yarrow via pyarrow@clayfield.qld.edu.au or our College Counsellor, Ms Shannon Edwards via sedwards@clayfield.qld.edu.au.

We have been advised that Mr Peckham’s funeral is open to all and will be held on Tuesday 14 May at 11:00am at St Augustine’s Church, Hamilton. The College will be compiling a memorial book for Mr Peckham’s family. While Primary classes will be involved, if you would like to contribute as a family, please collect a page from Main Reception and return it to the College by Thursday 9 May. In consultation with Mr Peckham's family, we will be organising a special tribute to honour and acknowledge his wonderful contribution to our community. Further details will be provided over the coming weeks.

We continue to keep Mr Peckham’s family in our thoughts and prayers during their time of grief.

Kind regards,

Dr Andrew Cousins

Principal
