Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back to Term 2. I trust you all enjoyed a happy and restful holiday. It has been wonderful to see all the students return to St Aidan's smiling and happy after the break.
On the last day of Term 1 and the first day back this term the staff participated in Professional Development focusing on Teaching and Assessing Reading. This Professional Development was created in collaboration between Sydney Catholic Schools and the Australian Centre for the Advancement of Literacy at the Australian Catholic University (ACU). It aims to provide a systematic guide on the best, evidence-based strategies for Teaching and Assessing Reading.
Thank you to the St Aidan's School Captains Chloe and Marley who represented St Aidan's at the Maroubra RSL Sub Branch Dawn Service on ANZAC Day. The school choir also represented St Aidan's at the service with a beautiful and moving performance. It was lovely to see the extended community join together to pay their respects. Thank you to Mrs Shaw who led the choir at the commemoration service.
On Tuesday Years 3 to 6 gathered together to pay their respects in an ANZAC Day liturgy. St Aidan's welcomed Mr Jim Coady the Vice President of the Maroubra RSL Sub Branch and Commander Simon Kelly to join the students in prayer. Thank you to Mrs Smithson, Mrs Siapkas and Year 3 students who led the respectful and prayer service.
God of mercy,
Send forth your Spirit of peace to our world as we ask you
to grant our prayers for those who have fallen in war.
We ask this prayer through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Students are to start wearing their winter uniform after the Mother's Day weekend. Monday 13th May. Please see the general Items section for the correct Winter uniform.
We are excited to announce two new uniform items that will be available for purchase as a part of the winter uniform. A St Aidan's Beanie is currently available and an All Weather Jacket will be available in the coming weeks. These can be purchased online and instore at Lowes Eastgardens.
I would like to take this opportunity to say Happy Mother's Day to all the incredible mother's and significant women in our lives. Your love, strength, and endless sacrifices make the world a better place. May you have a beautiful day on Sunday. May you feel appreciated, cherished, and be surrounded by the love you so selflessly give every day. You are truly extraordinary. Thank you for all that you do.
We are looking forward to another exciting term.
Take care,
Rachel Baker
Principal
