Year 2 Healthy Afternoon Tea

Karina McCowan, Year 2 Classroom Teacher

Year 2s have been exploring what it means to live a healthy life, including learning about balanced nutrition, exercise and wellbeing.

To celebrate the end of the unit and the wonderful learning they've done, we recently hosted a Healthy Afternoon Tea.

Students worked hard to prepare a delicious spread which included banana muffins, egg and cheese muffins, sandwiches, colourful fruit platters, and many other tasty, nutritious snacks.

Families were invited to share in the afternoon, and it was wonderful to see everyone enjoying the food and having conversations together.

A big well done to our young chefs for sharing their learning and for their effort and enthusiasm. Finally, a huge thank you to all who attended!

Barring-buluk opens

Last week, our Junior School students, parents and teachers had the honour of welcoming Willie Pepper from the Boonwurrung Land and Sea Council, who led a Smoking Ceremony as part of our new classrooms' opening celebration.

This special ceremony marked the revitalisation of the classrooms between The HIVE and Junior School, now named 'Barring-buluk' —a name meaning 'many footprints' in the Boonwurrung language.

Following the ceremony, families were invited to tour the new classrooms and connect with students and staff.

We hope this name serves as a reflection of the journeys of learning, growth and discovery that will continue to unfold within its walls for years to come.

SENIOR CHESS TOURNAMENT

Congratulations to Year 7 students Timothy Anastasiadis, Akshat Karnavat, Lawrence Li, Sid Manoj, Wilson Nuth and Giacomo Zanettin, who recently competed in an Interschool Tournament organised by Chess Australia. I'm proud of our small team, with each member winning at least one round. Special mention to Giacomo and Lawrence who won four out of their seven matches.

Year 8 'Share the Dignity' Drive

Jacqui Goldenberg, Community Service Program Director

As part of their recent Character and Connections Day, our Year 8 students had the opportunity to hear from Share the Dignity, our new charity partner. Share the Dignity is a women’s charity dedicated to supporting vulnerable women by distributing period products and working towards menstrual equity across Australia.

To support this cause, Kilvington held its first Share the Dignity Drive! Thanks to the generosity of our community, we filled two boxes with essential period products for donation. In addition, a group of Year 8 students are participating in the Period Pride competition as part of their Make a Difference program.

We are proud of our students for their efforts and look forward to running a second drive later this year!
