Year 8 & 9

Assistant Principal's Report

As we wrap up another wonderful year at Wyndham Central College, we want to take a moment to reflect on all the achievements, growth, and memorable moments that made this year so special. From the classroom to extracurricular activities, it has been a year filled with exciting learning opportunities, friendships, and new experiences for our students.

A Look Back at the Year

This year has been filled with so many exciting highlights that we can all be proud of (just to name a few):

  • Our sports carnivals and interschool sports program
  • Night at the museum event
  • Tales from Poe (student play)
  • Multicultural week
  • 50 year anniversary carnival and art show
  • End of year excursions

Academic Achievements

Our students have continued to excel academically, with many showing outstanding progress in Maths, English and Science. We’re especially proud of our high growth (strong) NAPLAN students, high achieving VCE students and all the students who put full efforts into their assessments and exams to achieve the best they were capable of. We’ve seen so much personal and academic growth this year. Whether it was mastering a new skill or overcoming a challenge, our students have truly demonstrated resilience and determination.

Community Building

This year, we’ve focused on creating a supportive and inclusive environment for all students. It has been heartwarming to see our school community come together for events at the Hub such as English lessons and first aid training, First Nation celebrations in the yarning circle, the school production and the multitude of music evenings held over the year and the AVID family nights.

None of this would be possible without our dedicated and the tireless work of school staff. In the Middle school (Year 8 & 9) specifically this is Allan Nilsen, Ewan Slater, Amelia Coster, Dan Robinson, Angela Whitfield and Sharon Hamilton. I would personally like to thank them for all they have contributed to the school over the year. I would also like to thank the wellbeing team for all the work they do behind the scenes supporting students and families. Thank you Rebecca, Sandy, Catriona, Natasha, Shell, Marcia, Aliea, Dillon and Chris.

Looking Ahead

As we move into the new year, we are excited about the opportunities that lie ahead. We’ll continue to foster a love of learning, encourage creativity, and support our students' growth in every way possible. We are already planning for next year’s program and can’t wait to share more with you in the coming months!

We want to express our deepest gratitude for your continued support throughout the year. Your involvement makes a world of difference in the success of our students and our school community.

Wishing you and your family a joyful and restful holiday season! We can’t wait to welcome everyone back in the new year for another fantastic year of learning and growth.

Year Level Leader's Report Year 8

As 2024 draws to a close, it’s time to reflect on the hard work, growth, and achievements we’ve experienced together this year. What an incredible journey it’s been. With the final sprint ahead, there’s still much to look forward to as we finish the year strong.

🏁 The Final Sprint – Wrapping Up 2024!

Over the last few weeks, we’ve focused on finishing strong, reflecting on the progress we’ve made, and setting ourselves up for a fantastic year 9 in 2025. The hard work students have put in throughout the year is about to pay off, and we’re here to support you all the way.

🧹 Transition Day – A Day of Fun and Celebration!

To celebrate all that we’ve accomplished together, our Transition Day was a huge highlight, offering a mix of relaxation, reflection, and fun. Students had an opportunity to engage in the following:

  1. Locker Clean-Up: Clearing out of lockers, sharing of memories and preparing for the holidays. It’s always great to see students drawing a line under the year’s achievements as they take out the old and bring in the new.
  2. Indoor Gaming Session: After a busy year, we had fun with an indoor gaming session. Whether you’re into board games, video games, or card games, it was the perfect way to relax and have some fun with your friends.
  3. Outdoor Activities – Proactivity Session: An awesome energetic session of outdoor activities designed to get students moving. Our Year 8s had the chance to participate in team-building challenges, fun sports, and games that promote teamwork and physical activity.
  4. Celebration Assembly: We gathered together to celebrate the end of a fantastic year. This special assembly included awards, recognition of achievements, an awesome whole-cohort game of Jeopardy, and lots of opportunities to reflect on the year’s highlights. It’s a time to celebrate everything our students have accomplished and still have to look forward to the exciting year ahead.
