In The Artroom

All grades have been creating PIXEL Art over the past two weeks. They have used grid paper and copied coloured templates of different characters following the pattern of each design. They have chosen from easy levels of Minecraft characters to more challenging Star Wars and animal designs.

For the second week, students designed their own PIXEL art design – the main focus on having straight lines with no curves – just like the pixelated movies and games.

Art club this week was for gr 1 and 2s and Preps with their gr6 buddies.

Artists of the week are:

  • Thomas McLoughlin
  • Lincoln Gerring
  • Ella Hopkins
  • Atticus Kahukura

Well done on an awesome week of creating!

STEM

Preps

Last week in STEM, Preps continued their movement work, exploring how the weight of an object changes how it spins.

This week, Preps had a ‘Challenge Week’, where they used a straw and two pieces of paper to create a two looped paper aeroplane.

Grade 1/2

Last week, grade 1/2s explored why two eyes are better than one. They conducted an investigation with a paper cup and cotton ball, by shooting for goals with one eye open and then both to see the difference on their aims.

This week, they explored how white light is composed of all colours of the visible spectrum. They got to make a rainbow spinner to see the effect of the moving wheel on the colours.

Grade 3/4

Last week, grade 3/4s explored the force of gravity. Students made a paper helicopter to drop from a height, seeing the effect of gravity on heavier paper helicopters.

This week, grade 3/4s concluded their unit of work on forces, with the focus for this week being magnetic force. With a magnet each, students identified magnetic and non-magnetic items in the STEM classroom and then played a boardgame with a partner to classify magnetic and non-magnetic items.

Grade 5/6

Last week, grade 5/6B were the only 5/6 class to have STEM, due to 5/6 camp earlier in the week. This class explored binary code.

This week, all grade 5/6 students started completing some eSmart modules on technology. Module 1 was about exploring self-regulation in the context of technology.
