Science

You matter. Unless you multiply yourself times the speed of light squared. Then you energy.

It has been so wonderful to see all the smiling faces of our students across the year levels and I am so excited to be introducing Science as a specialist subject to our Grade 1 and 2 students this year.

LEARNING

The first couple of weeks have solely been focussed on setting the students up with what they believe should be the expectations in our classroom. We have covered our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. The students worked in groups to think about what each of those values might look like, feel like and sound like in the Science classroom. I will spend some time going through all of their thoughts and write it up into a behaviour matrix, as written by them, that we will refer to throughout the year.

We have also had discussions about what Science is all about. The junior grades, in particular, often start off by thinking Science is all about explosions and experiments. They are quite shocked to learn that Science is EVERYWHERE! We discussed how much Science is already in their lives and the students demonstrated their learning by making a mini poster about something they are interested in, to do with Science, for our display that I will be creating outside our classroom, in the coming weeks.

Finally, I was lucky enough to get a chrysalis donated to our school, to observe over the coming weeks. All the students have enjoyed studying it and predicting what will come out and when it might come out. We are all amazed at how beautiful it looks and can’t wait to observe how it might change in shape, size and colour.
