Sport & PE

With Kathryn and Dave

With our athletics carnival having been run and won earlier this month, the focus of our PE lessons has shifted. The Year 4-6s began a basketball unit on Monday afternoon. Students played games that enabled them to practice their dribbling skills, working on close control while also keeping their eyes up on what was going on around them. The prep-year 3 students started PMP sessions where students rotate around activities and practise their balancing, throwing, leaping and crawling skills.

The Perceptual Motor Program, in line with the Victorian Curriculum, provides opportunities for students to:

  • Develop a range of fundamental movement skills, providing the foundation for a range of physical activities, such as crawling, balancing and hopping.
  • Practise hand-eye coordination skills, locomotion skills, eye-tracking skills, balancing skills and fitness skills.
  • Build a PMP vocabulary and practise language such as forwards, backwards and along, showing these movements using equipment.

Snowsports Program - Downhill

Fingers and toes crossed Pete The Snow Dragon will soon make snow fall at Falls Creek. We are hopeful to commence our downhill snow program from Wednesday 10th June.  Year 3-6 families, please keep checking in on COMPASS for any updates should we need to alter our planned dates.

We have a few wonderfull local businesses that can help out with equipment and apparel hire. Ski Plus, Kiewa Valley Snowsports and Rocky Valley, all located in Tawonga South.

Please head into your chosen ski shop for them to pre organise any hire gear you require so it's all written up and ready to collect the night before (Tuesday's). This makes for a quick stressfree collection.

Students will require thermals, fleece jumper, long socks, 2 pairs, ideally, of waterproof gloves, waterproof walking boots, skipants/overalls and ski jacket.  A beanie, face buff and a helmet. Skis or snowboard, boots, ski poles for intermidiate and advanced skiiers.

*Snowboarders are required as directed by the Department of Education to wear wrist guards.*

It's always a good idea to pack spares of apparel in the event items get wet, or the weather turns and extra layers are required for the childrens comfort.  Warm and dry skiers/boarders = happy children.

Any questions please see our staff.
