After their visit to the Moss Piglet performance in Wodonga last week, Kathryn's class have been recalling some of the facts from the show. They have created posters to inform about some very interesting facts. Did you know that some moss piglets even eat other moss piglets!

Science with Kim

On Monday, our Year 3 students participated in a fun and colourful “Magic Milk” activity with Kim during their Science lesson. Students explored the fascinating properties of soap and discovered how it can affect the surface tension of liquids.

Using milk, food colouring, and a drop of washing-up liquid, students observed beautiful swirling patterns appear across the surface of the milk. The activity demonstrated how food colouring dissolves easily in the water contained in milk, while tiny droplets of fat interrupt the movement of the colours.

Students also learned about surface tension — the force created when water molecules pull on one another at the surface of a liquid. When washing-up liquid was added, it reduced the surface tension in one area, causing the milk to rapidly move and mix. This reaction created the vibrant swirling colours that made the experiment so exciting to watch.

The activity was a wonderful hands-on way for students to explore scientific concepts while engaging their curiosity and creativity.

Wellbeing with Steph

Yesterday, our Year 5 and 6 students participated in a communication and trust-building activity. Working in pairs, students took turns being blindfolded while their partner guided them through a course in the yard.

Following the activity, students reflected on several important questions, including:

  • Do you have someone you can ask for help?
  • Do you have a friend at school you could turn to for help?
  • Is there an adult at school you feel comfortable asking for help?
  • Is there a trusted adult outside of school you could go to for support?

It was wonderful to see that all students were able to identify people in their lives who they trust, respect, and feel safe and comfortable with.

Kitchen Garden

Prep-1 students enjoyed a citrus exploration with some interesting 'sour' and 'sweet' faces being displayed! Students did a fantastic job of carefully drawing fruit and labelling their features - stem, leaf, peel/rind, pith, seeds, segments.

This week year 4/5 students learnt about soil types and added nets to the Intergenerational Gardening wicking beds. Students then returned to school to learn all about citrus fruits - tasting and discovering when fruit is ready to be picked.
