AUSLAN UPDATE

We have had a fantastic start to Term 2, Students have been engaged during Auslan sessions and have had the opportunity to develop their awareness of being Deaf Aware. They have also been having fun exploring new topics and signs through a variety of games, activities, and class discussions.  

Here are a few comments that students have made during AUSLAN sessions:

“I like signing about animals because I love animals and nature!” - Emika 3A

 

“It’s important to learn Auslan because some people are Deaf and if we don’t learn Auslan we won’t know what they’re signing. If we learn Auslan we know what they are signing and can become friends.” - Maddison 3A

 

“I like learning Auslan because it’s fun and we play games!” - Sethika 3A

Some of the topic we have been investigating during Auslan sessions so far are:

Learning to sign our names using the Auslan Alphabet.

YEAR 1

Deaf Awareness and starting to explore From the Land Auslan Signs.

YEAR 2

Exploring HOLM/NMF and Our Community Auslan Signs.

YEAR 3

Deaf Awareness and starting to explore Auslan Food Signs.

YEAR 4

Interpreting Auslan and starting to explore Auslan Sports Signs.

YEAR 5

HOLM/NMF, Deaf awareness and creating a simple Bilingual resource.

YEAR 6

Deaf Awareness, Government and Democracy and Interpreting Auslan.
