FROM THE CLASSROOM

This week, students participated in an engaging incursion led by Monash Law students. During the session, students explored important topics including bike and scooter safety rules, as well as understanding consent and respectful relationships. The incursion provided valuable real-world learning opportunities and encouraged thoughtful discussion.

Below are some student reflections on what they enjoyed and learnt from the incursion:

“I enjoyed how engaging the presenters were and how they explained the laws in a fun way. I learnt that consent is very important and that it does not always have to be given. I also learnt that bike lights and reflectors are compulsory by law. The treats at the end made the session even more enjoyable.”

“I enjoyed the slideshow because it was interesting and easy to understand. I learnt why consent is important, the legal ages for using e-scooters, and how to correctly fit a helmet so it keeps you safe.”

“I enjoyed how clearly the presenters explained everything in a way children could understand. I learnt the acronym FRIES for consent, which stands for Freely given, Reversible, Informed, Enthusiastic, and Specific. This helped me better understand what consent means.”

WELLBEING

As part of the Health Curriculum, our Year 6 classes will cover a discussion of puberty and changing male and female bodies in class during weeks 6 & 7 of term 2. Learning modules will cover topics including hormones, hygiene, growing bodies and boundaries – all as part of understanding puberty and the changing teenage body.

Below is a brief outline of the program contents that will be delivered to the students:

Part One: Hormones & Hygiene

Learn about the male and female anatomy, establishing good personal hygiene habits, the role of hormones in puberty and the emotional changes that come with puberty.

Part Two: Bodies & Boundaries

How the male and female body changes during puberty, menstruation and period management, understanding consent, personal boundaries and respectful relationships.

The lessons will include specific information relating to menstrual products and all female students will be offered a range of free product samples and information to help them understand the menstrual cycle and different ways to manage their periods.

As part of these lessons, we like parents to be actively involved by also communicating with their child about the changes that occur with puberty and adolescence.

REMINDERS

Winter Gala – Our Winter Gala event is fast approaching, please ensure you log onto Compass and provide consent and pay, the cost is $9.00. Students have been training hard all year for this day, and we hope to see them all in attendance.

Uniform Reminder - We are still seeing students wearing black pants or shorts to school. A reminder that Ramlegh Park’s uniform is navy blue. With the weather getting colder in the mornings we also remind families that while navy blue sleeves are fine, long black sleeves and hoodies are not to be worn under school uniforms.

CAMP PARENT VOLUNTEERS | EXPRESSION OF INTEREST

Dear Families,

We are excited to announce that our upcoming school camp at Woorabinda will take place in August. As part of our planning, we are seeking parent volunteers who are available to support the camp and help ensure a safe, enjoyable experience for all students.

We are looking for parents who are able to attend camp on the following dates:

6AEF will attend camp on August 17th-19th
6BCDG will attend on the August 19th-21st

If you are interested in volunteering, please email Miss Nash, Miss Marie or your child's classroom teacher. All volunteers must hold a current Working With Children Check (WWCC).

We will contact families once we have finalised the volunteer team. Please note that depending on numbers, we may not be able to take all volunteers, but we truly appreciate every offer of support.
