YEAR 4

FROM THE CLASSROOM

The countdown is officially on — camp is only one week away, and the excitement is building in Year 4! 

Camp packing lists are out, so ask your children if it’s in their bag if you don’t have it. There is also one final form that needs to be completed regarding dietary requirements. Please keep an eye out for this and return it as soon as possible to help us finalise preparations.

As the weather starts to cool down, a friendly reminder for students to have a spare change of clothes in their school bag, just in case they need them during the day.

We’ve had a busy and enjoyable Week 5, with lots of great learning happening across the classroom. 

Some highlights this week include:

Inquiry –  Students have loved learning to code using coding blocks through a programs like  Scratch and Delitex, creating and experimenting with their own sequences.

Mathematics – We’ve launched a new unit on Location, focusing on reading grid references and using map scales to calculate distances.

Reading – Students are building their comprehension skills by finding the main idea in

 non fiction texts, with a special focus on texts about coding.

Students have enjoyed learning the signs about sports and hobbies.

LEARNING INTENTIONS FOR NEXT WEEK

READING

• We are learning to identify new and interesting words, find the main idea and summarise chapters in a nonfiction text, 'How to Code'.

WRITING

• We are learning to tune in to our new text and explain what a diagram is.

MATHS

• We are learning to use grid reference maps. Name locations using grid references and give directions.

INQUIRY

• We are learning to create codes that move and animate sprites using loops and branches.

WELLBEING

• We are learning to use games to talk about skills for problem solving.
• We are learning to show and demonstrate respect as a whole school community.
