Wellbeing Supports Update

Thursday 19 February 2026

On The Ropes

Our Year 9 and Year 10 students will attend a performance of On the Ropes on Monday 23 February, with our VM Year 11 and 12 students attending on Tuesday 24 February. On the Ropes is an educational youth theatre production designed to support young people to better understand respectful relationships, consent, peer pressure, social media influences and their legal rights. The performance follows two teenagers navigating real-life challenges and aims to encourage healthy decision-making and help-seeking. Parents and carers are welcome to check their child’s Compass for further details about the event.

Each week we will be sharing resources from SchoolTV in line with what is happening in our school environment.

This week’s Mordialloc Swimming Carnival was a wonderful celebration of colour, courage and community — and a timely reminder of the powerful link between sport and mental health.

Physical activity is one of the most effective ways to support wellbeing. When students swim, cheer or participate, their bodies release endorphins — natural “feel-good” chemicals that help reduce stress and lift mood. After a day at the pool, many students feel happier and more energised, and that boost is more than just excitement; it’s science.

Sport also provides a healthy outlet for the pressures of school life. Assessments, friendships and busy schedules can feel overwhelming at times. Focusing on a race, supporting a teammate or simply being active gives students a mental break and a positive way to channel nervous energy.

Perhaps most importantly, events like the Swimming Carnival build connection. Belonging is essential for strong mental health, and on carnival day students were united in house colours, cheering each other on and celebrating effort. That shared experience strengthens friendships and builds confidence.

Sport teaches resilience too. Not every race is won, but every student who stepped up, had a go and finished their event showed courage. Learning to manage nerves, handle disappointment and persevere are life skills that extend well beyond the pool.

As we reflect on a fantastic day, we are reminded that participation matters more than performance. Through sport, we are not just building fit bodies — we are building confident, connected and resilient young people.

In this edition of SchoolTV, parents will discover practical advice relating to the benefits of regular physical activity and exercise, as well as tips on how to get their kids motivated and moving more.

We hope you take time to reflect on the information offered in this edition of SchoolTV and we always welcome your feedback. If you have any concerns about your child, please contact the school counsellor for further information or seek medical or professional help.
