Principal's Message

ear MGSC Community

The energy and momentum of Term 1 continue to build as we move through Week 4, with a wonderful blend of celebration, learning and strong routines shaping our school community.

A highlight of the past fortnight was the Year 12 Formal. It was a memorable evening, filled with joy, connection and plenty of time on the dance floor. I would like to sincerely thank Ilana Parker for her initial planning, and Stephanie Loiacono and Sam Sleep for their work in the final stages of preparation. My gratitude also extends to the many VCE teachers who attended and supported the evening. Events such as this remind us of the strong relationships between staff and students and the sense of belonging that defines our college.

This week our Year 7 students are attending camp. These experiences are so important in building friendships, resilience and confidence as students begin their secondary school journey. Thank you to the Junior School Team for their extensive preparation, and to the staff who have volunteered their time to attend. I would particularly like to acknowledge the Tess Molina (Director of Junior School), Louise Rieniets and Anne-Claire Brunet (Year 7 Assistant Directors) supported by Cindy Jackman, Cheryl Shea and Cathy Grieve, along with our First Aid team, for the many hours of behind-the-scenes organisation that ensure camp runs smoothly and safely.

At the same time, across the college we continue to reinforce our Ready to Learn expectations. Being organised, moving promptly to classes and minimising time spent at lockers or bathrooms between lessons all contribute to calm and purposeful transitions. We appreciate the support of students and families in helping to reinforce these expectations. A consistent focus on routines ensures that valuable learning time is protected.

Uniform standards are also being carefully monitored. We thank students for their cooperation and families for their support. Jewellery should be in line with college guidelines, and students who are out of uniform are expected to follow established processes. Maintaining consistent uniform expectations reflects our collective pride in Mentone Girls’ Secondary College.

As we progress through Term 1, we remain grounded in our motto, virtute et labore, courage and work, and in our values of empowerment, achievement, inclusion and creativity. Together, these guide our daily actions and ensure that MGSC continues to be a place where every student can thrive.

Best wishes
