Around the College

Year 8 Gippsland Tech School Excursion
In Week 3, nineteen of our bright and enthusiastic Year 8’s went on an excursion to Gippsland Tech School for an Industry Tech Taster. All students were able to program robots to follow a specific route, design and create a 3D printed key chain and be put to the test in a Breakout room, designed to test their problem-solving and teamwork skills. Throughout the day, students learnt about how technology is used in the workforce and how this is changing over time, and therefore the skills they need to be part of it in the future. It was a great day, and we were very proud of the students for taking on the challenges.
Humanities Update
Year 7 Humanities
Year 7 students are developing their historical skills while exploring the ancient past, with a focus on First Nations Australians. Students have been practising sequencing dates in chronological order and creating timelines of ancient Australia. They have also examined archaeological evidence that reveals how long humans have lived in Australia and have learned to distinguish between primary and secondary sources of evidence.
Year 8 Humanities
Year 8 students have begun their study of Medieval Europe. Some classes have revisited key Year 7 skills and knowledge before exploring the geography of Europe — past and present — and examining the feudal system. Students are learning about the roles and relationships between the different groups within medieval society.
Year 9 Humanities
Year 9 students have commenced their study of the colonisation of Australia, examining events and experiences from a range of perspectives. Students are currently working on their first assessment task: an essay on a topic of their choice related to themes explored in class.
Economics, Business & History
Year 10 Economics and Business
Last week marked a significant step forward in economic thinking for our Year 10 students as they explored the Five Sector Circular Flow Model. Using videos, PowerPoint presentations and materials from the Reserve Bank, students examined how the model explains the complex interactions within an economy. They constructed their own diagrams and discussed some of the model’s modern limitations, considering how economic conditions have evolved since its development in the 1960s.
Year 10 History
Students have been investigating the causes of World War II, beginning with the aftermath of World War I and the rise of fascism in Europe. They have been developing their analytical skills by practising extended responses that evaluate and interpret historical questions.
Unit 1 Business Management
Students are exploring the process of developing a business idea and examining how it can be transformed into a successful enterprise. They are currently drafting interview questions based on key concepts studied in class. Students will soon interview a local business owner and produce a written report analysing their findings.
Year 12 Business Management
Year 12 students are completing Area of Study 1 – Business Foundations – and are preparing for their first School Assessed Coursework (SAC). The SAC will run for 40 minutes and is worth 20 marks. We wish them every success as they prepare for this important assessment.
