Year 5/6

Year 5/6 Cluster News
HOME INQUIRY:
Inquiry: Please have conversations with your child about different strategies they can use when they are struggling with different events in their lives.
Reading: Aim for 20 minutes minimum reading per night. We encourage students to read aloud, either to themselves or a parent.
Mathematics: Working on general multiplication skills with the goal for automaticity of the facts up to x12
Chat Academy: On Monday 2nd March and Friday 6th March, Year 5 and 6 students will have two incursions run by the Chat Academy focusing on Growth and Development topics. These will be facilitated in year level groups.
An email has been sent to families with more information. If you do not wish for your child to participate in these sessions, please email office@goldengrove.sa.edu.au
Please have conversations with your child around these topics before week 6 so they have some prior knowledge, and they are able to engage positively with the sessions. If you have any questions or would like to talk further about this, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.
Camp: Camp will be held on Monday 30th March - Wednesday 1st April (Week 10) at Woodhouse Adventure Park. If you are a parent who would like to volunteer, please let us know via email ASAP.
Please use the following link to register your child for camp as soon as possible. This will include medical and dietary requirements.

Toddle: If you do not have access to Toddle, please contact the front office.
iPads: Please ensure your child has working headphones and a keyboard. The iPad keyboard will be important in the development of keyboard typing skills which will be part of their class learning. The headphones will be regularly used in class for a variety of purposes. Please check the connection of the headphones with the iPad as newer versions of iPads have a different connection point.
NAPLAN: The National Coordinated Practice test for NAPLAN is this Tuesday (24th Feb). It is important that your Year 5 child brings a fully charged iPad, working headphones that connect physically (not Bluetooth), and a keyboard on the day.
Please take some time to check these items over the weekend to ensure everything is in good working order and to allow time to replace anything if needed.
Having the correct equipment is one way you can support your child to feel prepared and confident.
Uniform:
Please ensure your child is in correct school uniform, which includes correct formal shoes on Monday and Wednesday and no additional jewellery.
Please refer to the Uniform Guidelines located on the school’s website. (https://www.goldengrove.sa.edu.au/school-life/uniform/ )
Monday and Wednesday: Formal
Tuesday and Thursday: PE
Friday: PE or formal (student choice)
Reader’s and Writer’s Workshop: Students have been working on creating descriptive narrative writing and engaging their audience.
