Foundation Cluster News
Welcome to Week 5. It was awesome to see so many people join us for Community Breakfast during the week and Worship on Sunday; the blessing of the student backpacks was a special event.
Just a small reminder to please label all of our child’s items clearly as we are starting to see some drink bottles, shorts and t-shirts without names.
For absences, please phone the office on 8282 6000 or email both the office office@goldengrove.sa.edu.au and your child’s teacher by 9.00am.
Morning Routine: Students arrive between 8.30-8.45am. They bring their water bottle and ‘Take Home Folders’ into class.
Lunchboxes: Please provide your child with fresh fruit/vegetables that are already cut up and/or easy to eat within 5 minutes. Please pack more food than you think your child needs as growing bodies and minds mean hungry bellies. Please DO NOT pack NUTS or EGG.
Drink bottles (water only) are essential.
It is helpful if your child has applied sunscreen prior to coming to school. We encourage reapplication of sunscreen during the day at school.
Hats must be worn during Terms 1 and 4.
Family photo: Keep sending in those photos.
We would love a family photo to put on our family wall in the classroom for children to look at when they miss their family during the day. Please either send a hard copy photo in or email one to us and we can print it off.
Toddle: Information was sent out by Admin for families to join Toddle. Please check your ‘Junk/Spam’ emails in case the Toddle invite is there. Please reach out to the School Office if you need technical support with this. We post important information reminders, student learning, photos/videos and assessments on this platform.
Wednesday Rest Day: Just a reminder that the first 5 Wednesdays in Term 1 are rest days for new Foundation students. This will be especially important during times of extreme heat which tires students more than usual. We strongly recommend families to use these days to provide their children with the rest that they need to regulate emotions and have a successful start to school.
The purpose of rest days is to build up their learning stamina as many students are transitioning from shorter weeks while at Kindergarten to full weeks in Foundation. We ask you to consider this opportunity to enable your child to rest on those days and help them to adjust to attending full time school. All students will be at school on March 11. No new content will be introduced on Wednesdays up until this date to ensure that learning will not be missed on those days that they are resting. We trust that you know what is best for your child and their needs.
Take home folders: Take Home folders to come to school every day. Students will need these for notes to be sent home, take home craft they make during the day, and new sounds will be placed in this folder on Friday of every week, keep a look out for them.
Library: Our Library Day will begin Wednesday Week 6 when all Foundations begin full time school. We will begin to visit the library and borrow books.
Pick up information: To assist the children and teachers with end of the day procedures, we would like to know your child’s pick-up details. There is a poster inside the classroom door with pick up options. Please fill this out at your earliest convenience. We are then able to reassure your child at the end of the day. If your plans change on any given day, please ring through to the School Office and they will inform us via the ‘message’ tray of the changes, or tell us in the morning at drop off.
Please note: During teaching hours, we are unable to check emails.
Foundation Welcome Evening: On Friday 13 March our P&F are holding a Foundation Welcome Night as a welcome to our school. Please come along, have some pizza and meet other foundation families. For more information and RSVP details please click on the following link:

Chapel/assembly: Our Foundations will not be attending weekly assembly or chapel until Week 6 (March 2-6) to help them settle into the routines of school.
Volunteers: We love having volunteers in the classroom. If you are interested in volunteering, there are a few tasks you will need to be able to help in the classroom.
· Current Working With Children Check (WWCC)
· Responding to Abuse, Harm and Neglect training (RRHAN-EC)
· Valuing Safe Communities (VSC) training; and You can find the information here on the school website: https://www.goldengrove.sa.edu.au/parents-community/employment-opportunities/
