Let Your Light Shine
You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. Matthew 5:14-15
Imagine walking into a completely dark room. It can feel a little scary, can't it? Now imagine someone lights a single candle. Suddenly, everything changes. That small flame pushes back the darkness and fills the room with warmth and hope.
Jesus described himself as the light of the world — someone who brings joy, hope, and love into the dark and difficult moments of life. But here's the remarkable thing: in Matthew 5:14-15, Jesus turns to his followers and says you are the light of the world too.
What does that mean for us? It means that every act of kindness, every word of encouragement, every moment we choose to help someone who is struggling - we are shining. We are reflecting the love of Jesus into the lives of the people around us.
Jesus also gives us a gentle challenge. He asks us not to hide our light - not to cover it up with unkindness, indifference, or by keeping our faith quietly to ourselves. Instead, he invites us to put our light on a stand, so it gives light to everyone in the house.
As we go about our week - in our classrooms, on the playground, and at home - let's look for opportunities to let our light shine.
Dear God, thank you for sending Jesus to be our light. Help us to share that light by being kind and loving this week. Amen.
Blessings!
