Student Diversity & Inclusion

Swinburne Senior Secondary College has been doing some amazing things in the inclusion and diversity space. The culmination of this was our last big day of celebrations for 'Wear It Purple Day'. Rainbow Club leader Sienna and our 2025 leaders, Brooke and Ella had key discussions with American based software, networking and security multinational Cisco. Outcomes and plans led to the implementation of Wear It Purple on 20 August over lunch.

On the day there was a team of Swinburne people helping, with students, teachers and the Cisco members all chipping in to decorate the auditorium, cook sausages and hand out cookies and some raffle prizes for the end draw. A huge thanks to Cisco for providing the food, company, banners and decorations.

The special part about the day was sharing corporate and school cultures, recognising the diversity we have at Swinburne and how this could be a strength for the corporate world. Cisco members, Tim, Mara and Mark all spoke about the importance of being yourself and having a company that supports this. Ciara, Les and the other members talked to students and explained what corporate life was like.

Our own force of nature Sienna provided some terrific analogies and storylines to really enforce the supportive Swinburne culture and why this is a great school for everyone. Questions and answers followed as people expressed their thoughts, again reflecting Swinburne's supportive culture.

Well done to everyone on a wonderful celebration of our diversity and inclusion.
