This term our art students across multiple subjects have had the pleasure of visiting many exhibitions across Melbourne to inform their research and artmaking.
The Fashion students got to visit the Africa exhibition at @ngvmelbourne and listened to a talk, then viewed the works to record ideas relating to cultural identity to feed into both their folio work and their research.
Art and Textiles students from U4 Art Making and Exhibiting got to visit Hair Pieces at Heidi Museum to explore the work and hear a talk from gallery staff regarding the conservation practices of the gallery and the preservation of their collection. Hair Pieces explores the evocative and complex significance of hair in contemporary culture through a selection of recent Australian and international works of art.
The U4 Art Making + Exhibiting Photography students got to visit @maph_photography to see Built Photography curated by Kiron Robinson and Izabela Pluta. Students listened to a talk about the gallery and its conservation practices as well as the installation of the artworks to inform the presentation of their own final artworks this semester.
Blood, sweat and tears have been poured into the U2 VCE Media and VET Screen and Media productions throughout the week. It's inspiring to watch young people commit to such patience and independence in their direction, lighting, videography and acting to make theirs and their peers visions and short films materialise.
We have also had the pleasure of having @yandellw running workshops with our U2Art Creative Practice classes as part of our AiR for the past few weeks and it has been so much fun. The students have been developing stop animations inspired by their individual concepts as well as the practice of @pipilotti_rist_studio. We can't wait to see how this residency evolves. Please follow our arts Instagram page at sssc_arts to see more art, projects and events that our wonderful students are engaging in throughout the semester.
