Year 12 Media

The Year 12s successfully completed the production stage of their Media SAT over their holiday break. Not without substantial hurdles to overcome, from actors not turning up to illnesses running rife through both cast and crew, media productions seem to always serve up a gamut of challenges to overcome! Murphy’s Law strikes again! A common maxim in the film industry is that you make a film three times. First you write it, then you film it, and lastly, you edit it all together. Now the Year 12s make their media product for the third time.

Whilst they make headway on their edits, in class time the Year 12s are currently learning about the complex dynamic between contemporary audiences and the media. We travelled to the State Library of Victoria to equip us with research skills in preparation for a research report on a contemporary issue within the media. Whether that be the threat of misinformation, the immediacy of livestreaming, imposing Australian content quotas on streaming platforms, or simply Elon Musk’s brazen freedom of speech ideology, students will choose a topic of interest to investigate and devise an academic report for. On the excursion students appreciated learning tips and tricks for searching online for reputable sources and information and also took an interest in not only the microfilm library but also the folklore of Ned Kelly and Redmond Barry, who stand off against one another in the Redmond Barry Reading Room of the State Library.

Year 11 Media

The Year 11 Media class have made a great start to Unit 2 Media, diving into research for their video essays on a media maker with a specific style. Students have chosen an eclectic range of media makers this year, from Afro Samurai creator Takashi Okazaki to India’s highest grossing film director/producer Aditya Chopra to the antics of Pete Davidson and national treasures Cate Shortland and Catherine Martin, we are in for a treat! This will then segue into recreating scenes from these creators as students learn that analysis informs creation and vice versa in media creation.

VET Video Production

After a jam-packed semester one, the VET Video Production class continues to ramp up as they continue to produce a range of video content. Next up, they will be producing audition videos for the VET Dance Class to aid them in their next steps post-school. You may then see them produce their next short films around the college or the live recording of the next Music Night Performances at Kindred Studios on the 17th and 18th of September.
