Visual Arts Term 3

Prep

Welcome to a new term in our Prep Visual Arts program! We are excited to see our youngest artists grow in independence as they learn their way around the Art Studio and begin to take control of their visual arts journey.

Growing Independence and Exploration

  • Art Studio Familiarity: Our Prep students are becoming more comfortable navigating the art studio and using various materials and tools.
  • Independent Artworks: Some children are starting to create their own independent artworks, while others are still exploring and experimenting in a play-based environment.
  • Skills Development: We are focusing on helping each student find their own artistic voice and develop confidence in their creative abilities.

Focus Areas: Watercolours and Collage

  • Reviewing Techniques: This term, we will revisit and refine our skills with watercolours and collage, two fundamental techniques in our art curriculum.
  • Art Show Preparation: We will also begin working on a special art piece for the December art show, giving students a goal to work towards and a chance to showcase their progress and creativity.

We are looking forward to a term filled with creativity, growth, and artistic exploration.

Grade 1-6

Welcome to another exciting term in the grade 1 - 6 Visual Arts Choice-Based Art Studio! This term, we are focusing on two essential Studio Habits of Mind: Express and Engage & Persist.

Express: Finding Meaning in Our Work and Others

  • Personal Meaning: Encourage your child to explore what their artwork means to them and the story behind their creations.
  • Interpretation: Students will learn to understand and discuss the meaning behind their peers' and famous artists' work.
  • Reflection: Through discussions and critiques, students will share and communicate their interpretations effectively.

Engage & Persist: Connecting, Going Deeper, and Challenging Ourselves

  • Connection: Students will choose subjects and mediums that resonate with them, fostering a sense of ownership and pride.
  • Depth: We will challenge students to push their creative boundaries, explore new techniques, and revise their work.
  • Persistence: Students will learn to embrace mistakes and develop problem-solving skills and resilience.

We are excited to see how these habits will enhance our students' artistic journeys.
