EXTRA CURRICULA NEWS:
We have had a lot of events over the past couple of weeks and I want to thank the parents and staff that have made this possible. We have participated in Sporting events, Book Week, Liturgical Celebrations and Dance Eisteddfods and Wakakirri.
The Dance Esteddfods and Wakakirri were outstanding and congratulations to the students who represented there. We are extremely proud of your performances and the work and representation of our school at these events.
We have also had some Gala days which are currently being reviewed going forward as there is a lot of participation in Sydney Catholic Schools Gala Days and some independently run days may not be feasible moving forward. It is important to speak to your child around the Code of Conduct at these days as it is a privilege to be there. Students who do not abide by the Code of Conduct will not be able to attend these events.
MOBILE PHONES & WATCHES:
Just a reminder regarding Phones and watches. Students will receive a breech notice if they are using their watches/ phones during school hours to communicate. Please ensure your child's device is on 'School Mode' from 8.20am.
School Guidelines:
The following ‘common sense’ rules apply with respect to mobile phones and smart watches:
● Courtesy, consideration of and respect for others are paramount at all times
● Mobile phones, tablets or smart watches are brought to school entirely at the owner’s risk
●The School cannot accept any responsibility for theft, loss, damage, or other misadventure
resulting from a student bringing a mobile device to school
● Parents and students are asked to respect the learning environment. Mobile devices should
not be used in any manner or in any place that is on school property. This includes the sending and receiving of text messages, taking of photographs, video or audio recordings, making of phone calls or the sending/receiving of data of any kind.
● These guidelines also refer to the use of mobile phones during excursions, athletics or
swimming carnivals, or any other supervised school activities.
School Procedures for Stage 3 students:
At the commencement of the school day:
- Students will surrender their mobile device to the class teacher
- The device will be placed in a secure container with other student devices within the classroom
- At the end of the day, students will collect their device from the class teacher prior to dismissal.
School Procedures for Kindergarten- Year 4 students:
Upon arrival at the school
- Students will place their mobile phone in a labelled ziplock bag and sign in their mobile device to the office
- The phone will be placed in a secure container with other student devices within the office
- At the end of the day, students will collect their device from the office prior to dismissal.
For watches and other transmitting devices:
- Apple watches and other smart transmitting watch devices MUST be switched to Airplane mode before a student enters the school grounds.
- If a student uses their device during the school day for purposes other than telling the time (e.g. sending a message, playing a game, taking photos etc), the device will be taken from the student and stored in the office. A note saying that the student has breached our school Mobile Device Policy will be sent home and the student will not be allowed to bring their device for a week.
DISMISSAL REMINDERS
Please be mindful of the following procedures for dismissal.
- Students on parent pick up and walkers do not leave until 3.10pm when the final school bell goes. Please remind other family members collecting your children of these expectations. Siblings from the college should wait on the grass area with parents.
- Students who have permission to leave prior to bell time need to exit through the office and make their way down Belmont St without re-entering the school grounds.
- Students who ride bicycles leave at 3.10pm as well.
- Turning circle starts at 3.05pm. Please do not turn right into Belmont St to access turning circle. Cars enter turning circle from the police station/court house direction only. In the afternoons please try and avoid turning right into Flora St from the turning circle. This can cause further traffic congestion.
- Students and parents using the crossing with students are kindly requested to wait until they are invited onto the crossing, before crossing. The supervisor should move to the middle of the crossing (unaccompanied) before then asking students and parents to cross without hazard.
100 Year Celebrations
Attention parents, ex-students, parishioners and all those who may have had a connection to our school or parish, we are looking to collect photos or any memorabilia that would help us show the evolving history of our school and parish.
There has been a changing face to the people, the buildings, the uniforms, just to name a few areas!
If you can help us put together a 'centenary' presentation by contributing whatever you have (photos, videos, even old uniforms, schoolbags, books), we would be really appreciative.
Please make sure everything you send in has your name and contact number on it very clearly (we will be very careful to get these back to you), with ATTENTION Mrs Cameron and it will come to me.
If you have any photographs or information that can be sent via email, please send to margaret.cameron@syd.catholic.edu.au
It should be fun to present a wonderful collection of images and items that show how our school and Parish has evolved!!
Thank you to all of you who have responded with photos/books/written memories etc.. for our centenary display.
We would love perhaps some uniforms/hats/ awards cards etc, anything that shows how things have changed over the years. All ideas and items would be appreciated. We are also hoping for some photos of the school and its changing buildings and layout.
Thanks again... keep it all coming in!!!
