Year Six - Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families,

Welcome back to Term 3! We are excited to share with you what your child has been learning this week.

Religious Education: In Religious Education, students completed a pre-assessment to show their understanding of the Sacrament of Eucharist. On Friday, some of our students were involved in Confirmation Retreat Day, which was a transformative experience where students deepened their understanding of their faith journey and prepared for the Sacrament of Confirmation. They engaged in meaningful activities and reflections that strengthened their connection to God and their community.

Mathematics: This week in Maths, we explored angles. Students learned to classify and identify different types of angles, estimate and measure angles using a protractor and find unknown angles.

How can you support this at home? Practice identifying angles in everyday objects around the house.

English: This term, we begin our journey with the class novel 'Once', a gripping story set during the Holocaust. This week, we activated background knowledge on the Holocaust to help students understand the historical context of the story. We discussed key facts and events to build a solid foundation for our reading.

How can you support this at home?

  • Discuss what your child knows about the Holocaust.

Our focus this week was on relative clauses, which help us add more detail to our sentences. Students practised writing sentences with relative clauses and started planning the introduction for their informative writing pieces.

How can you support this at home?

  • Ask your child to explain what a relative clause is and give examples.

Social/ Emotional Learning & RRRR:We introduced the topic of gender and created rules and expectations for a safe space to discuss gender-related issues. This was an important step in ensuring that all students feel respected and heard.

Integrated Studies:We conducted a pre-assessment on The Arts to understand students' prior knowledge. Our first lesson of the Footsteps Dance Program was a hit, as students began learning new dance moves and expressing themselves through dance.
