Year 10 Applied Science

Linking Genetics/Genomics and Dairy Farming

The Year 10 Applied Science classes have been exploring the link between genetics/genomics and dairy farming. To complement and reinforce their classroom work, they recently had the opportunity of a field trip to two local dairy farms.

They explored a working dairy farm, how genomics testing is done and how it is used for herd improvement and increasing production within a dairy herd and realised the diverse range of occupations linked to agriculture. It was a fantastic hands-on opportunity for them to experience.

Thank you to RACE Gippsland, Amy & Rowdy, and Wayne K for allowing us to visit your farms and for educating our Year 10 students in the many facets of an operating dairy farm.
