Sunshine Carnival

Year 8 Achieve Program

On Thursday 25 July, three of the Year 8 Achieve classes (8C, 8H and 8W) coordinated the Sunshine Carnival in the PA Courtyard. This event was organised and run by the students, with their class teachers facilitating the activities.

8C organised a bake sale and hot chocolate stand, which was a great hit on the day. 8H came up with the innovative 'Mystery Box' concept that had students squealing with delight (or horror) depending on what they found inside! Finally, the afternoon's festivities wrapped up with 8W's 'The Big Freeze Challenge', where four "lucky" Senior School staff members (Mr Matt Kellett, Mr Jack Smeelie, Mr Blake McConville and Mrs Melinda Naughton) had ice-cold buckets of water poured over them courtesy of a student raffle!

This event was all about raising much-needed funds for the great work of Sunshine Bendigo and, thanks to all the support from staff and students, the Sunshine Carnival raised more than $600 on the day!

Sunshine Bendigo is a charity dedicated to helping families who are experiencing difficult times. They are based in Bendigo but service all of Central Victoria. Sunshine was founded in 2016 because the founder Glenda Serpell observed a growing need in Central Victoria, with many families requiring a helping hand to meet the challenges that come with raising young children. Sunshine Bendigo collect, sort and distribute new and pre-loved baby items and nursery equipment to all families in need. In Glenda’s own words: “It takes a village to raise a child … I believe that the village (our community) is paramount for families to survive and flourish.”

All proceeds from this event will be donated to Sunshine Bendigo. If you wish to donate, you can do so via their website.

8M and 8V will be hosting Sunshine events in the Junior School on Wednesday and Thursday of Week 4, so stay tuned for more exciting updates!
