Courage to Care
Year 9 Achieve Program
On Wednesday 17 July, Year 9 students met with volunteers from the Courage to Care group, who presented stories of Holocaust survivors with the message that by taking action, you can become not just a bystander but an upstander.
Courage to Care is an organisation based in Australia that was founded by Jewish service B’nai B’rith. The group's mission is to prevent discrimination and bullying through educational programs. The Courage to Care program focuses on sharing the stories of people who rescued Jews during the Holocaust with the aim of promoting tolerance and harmony and educating students about the dangers of prejudice, racism and discrimination.
Courage to Care student reflections
We really enjoyed Courage to Care – it was very informative. It helped us understand more about how to counter racism, prejudice, discrimination and bullying. It inspired us to be more confident and courageous, to become stronger upstanders against bullies. It was very inspiring to hear from someone who has experienced discrimination. We are very grateful we got to be a part of the experience.

The Courage to Care program was an intriguing program about bullying and how to be an upstander. As a part of the program, we heard from a Holocaust survivor who told us the inspiring story of how his family got through the Holocaust. It made us think about how much better the world would be if we were all upstanders.
