Whats on in Term 3

Prep

 

In Term 3 Prep students will be participating in units of Run, Jump, Leap & Dodge and Catch & Throw.

 

When learning about Run, Dodge, Leap and Jump students will develop these skills in isolation and then progress to applying them during small group games.  The 'Throw and Catch' unit will continue to develop students’ skills from first semester. Each skill will be developed in segments, using a variety of equipment, before being applied individually or with a partner. This semester students will develop their understanding of boundaries and rules and practise working cooperatively with a partner or small group.

 

Grade 1/2

 

In Term 3, Grade 1/2 students will be participating in units of Run, Jump, Leap & Dodge and Kick.

 

When learning about Run, Dodge, Leap and Jump, students will develop these skills in isolation then progressed to applying their skills during minor games, under increased pressure. When learning about kicking, students will practise dribbling and will then develop their technique by kicking towards a target. Students will be introduced to the concept of fair play and practise demonstrating good sportsmanship.

 

Grade 3/4

 

In Term 3, Grade 3/4 students will be participating in units of Fitness and Target Games.

 

When participating in Fitness, students will learn about cardio and resistance training and develop an understanding of the benefits of regular physical activity by participating in a series of fitness circuits. During Target Games, students will play games that involved attempting to score by sending an object towards a target. These games will involve calculating distance and avoiding obstacles, while developing problem-solving skills and their ability to work cooperatively in small groups. 

 

Grade 5/6

 

In Term 3, Grade 5/6 students will be participating in units of Fitness and Invasion Games.

 

When participating in Fitness, students will learn about cardio and resistance training and develop an understanding of the benefits of regular physical activity while attempting to improve their cardiovascular fitness and core, upper and lower body strength and endurance. During Invasion Games, students will participate in a variety of small sided modified games that require them to work cooperatively and communicate effectively with their peers. These games will require them to run, dodge, throw and catch and will develop the tactical skills of moving into space and maintaining possession.
