WELC & International Student Report
Ms Debby Morgan & Ms Summer Bao
Our international students continue to impress us with their active involvement in school life. We were thrilled to see so many of you participating in Athletics Day, showcasing your athletic talents and Olympics spirit.
Additionally, our iCreate students have been busy exploring their creative potential. As pictured, our drone enthusiasts captured stunning aerial views of the school, while our architecture students added a splash of colour to our school garden with their beautiful planter designs. Your enthusiasm and dedication are an inspiration to us all!
We are committed to supporting the wellbeing of our Year 12 students. To this end, we will implement bi-weekly wellbeing workshops throughout Term 3. These workshops are designed to provide students with valuable tools and resources to manage stress and excel academically.
In Week 2, we had the privilege of inviting Mr. Tickner to provid insightful information on alternative pathways and options for international students. In Week 4, we worked with Wellbeing team to offer a restorative yoga session to help students relax and improve their focus. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to Mr. Tickner, our wellbeing staff (Ash and Nadia), and ISP staff members (Ms. Huyen and Khampheuy) for their invaluable contributions to these workshops.
At the start of this term, we held a homestay student assembly to discuss important travel arrangements for the end of the year. To ensure compliance with our ISP attendance policy, we kindly request that all students check term dates before booking flights (see below). This policy is in place to guarantee students meet their academic obligations and fully participate in end-of-year school activities. We understand the excitement of returning home, but adhering to this policy will prevent any disruptions to your studies.
We are halfway through Term 3 and it has been a busy start to the term. We have had about 30 new students join our Language Centre this term. We are running 4 classes and it is wonderful to see all students making new friends and practicing their English together.
All students participate in one Elective class a week. This term we are running Sport, Cooking, Drama and Art. You will see pictures from these classes in this newsletter.
In Term 3, nineteen students are participating in Swimming lessons at the Doug Ellis Pool at Monash University. Students are enjoying learning basic water safety and swimming techniques. This is an important skill to have in Australia and we are pleased that so many students are attending and developing their swimming skills.
Every week, Language Centre students have a sports class. Students enjoy spending time playing badminton, basketball, table tennis or other sports. This term, students also practiced relay and tunnel ball to prepare for the Westall Athletics Carnival which was held on Thursday 8 August. On that day, all our students who attended participated in at least one event and many received ribbons for placing in the top three. We were very proud of all students for trying new things and for having a go! When adjusted for numbers in each school house, WELC placed third in the school.
Congratulations, WELC!!!
We are currently going through 2025 course selections for students who will attend Westall S.C next year. Students will be asked to choose subjects and electives and we ask that you look through these with your child to confirm their choices.
We have a number of important events coming up in WELC;
Friday 16 August – Student-free day. Students should not come to school.
Monday 19 August – excursion to the Immigration Museum & Shrine of Remembrance. Students need to come to school at 8:30 am.
Tuesday 20 August – school finishes at 12:45 pm and Parent Teacher Interviews start at 1:50 pm. All families are welcome.
