Catapult Capers!

This term Years 3-6 are doing a unit on Smooth Moves. This involves learning about forces and motion. We have already learnt about Newton’s 3 laws of motion and looked at and tested many different types of forces. These include both direct and indirect forces as well as gravity and friction.

This week we had great fun making catapults using pop sticks and rubber bands. We tested catapulting marbles, pom poms, marshmallows and smarties. We had to apply force to the spoon to make the item fly forward.

Some of our scientists were very accurate with their catapults and managed to get their tasty missiles directly into cups or even their mouth!
