Positive Behaviour for Learning - PBL
Each week our school follows a PBL Weekly Focus. This week, the focus of our PBL lessons will be showing Responsibility in the Community. This will support our Year 5 & 6 students on Camp this week and our Year 3 - 6 students who are representing St Roch's at the District Cross Country on Friday.
The weekly PBL focus aims to keep our PBL framework on the agenda across the school and keep up the excitement of Gotcha Tickets, Class Rewards and Whole School Rewards!
We encourage discussions with our students around the expected behaviour for the week and ensure that we are 'catching' the children when following the expected behaviour by giving out the Gotcha Tickets.
SRC Circle Time - Respect in Action
This week, our Student Representative Council (SRC) leaders facilitated a special Circle focused on one of our core school values—Respect.
Each class participated in a “Respect Sort” activity, where students worked in pairs to sort cards into “Respect is…” and “Respect is not…” categories. This sparked rich discussions as students considered what respectful behaviour looks, sounds, and feels like in our school community.
During the debrief, students reflected thoughtfully:
- “My friends show respect when they listen to me and include me in games.”
- “My teacher shows respect when they help me.”
- “I show respect when I look after our classroom and speak kindly.”
When asked, “Why is respect important at our school?”, students said:
- “It helps people understand how to treat others.”
- “It allows others to learn.”
- “It teaches us to listen.”
- “It shows kindness.”
It was wonderful to hear our students speak with such thoughtfulness and care. These Circle sessions not only strengthen social and emotional skills, but also give our SRC leaders the chance to lead with confidence and help build a culture of respect in every classroom.
Every Child, Everybody, Everyday.
