Generations In Jazz

From 2 to 4 M the talented ensembles of St Monica’s College had the extraordinary opportunity to attend and compete in the renowned Generations in Jazz festival held in Mount Gambier. This prestigious event brought together hundreds of young musicians from across the country, all united by a shared passion for jazz music.

Our students not only had the chance to perform, but also to be inspired by world-class musicians. Highlights of the trip included watching powerhouse performances from Gordon Goodwin’s Big Phat Band, whose energy and precision left everyone in awe, and unforgettable sets by Darren Percival and Michelle Nicolle, both of whom brought soulful interpretations and vocal mastery to the stage.

Saturday was a particularly exciting day, as our ensembles took to the stage to represent St Monica’s in the competition. The Senior Vocal Ensemble delivered an engaging and expressive performance, showcasing their tight harmonies and dynamic control. The Stage Band impressed the adjudicators with their strong ensemble playing, while the Jazz Combo wowed the audience with their groove and improvisational skills. Each group performed with professionalism and passion, earning well-deserved praise from the audience and adjudicators.

Beyond the performances, the festival was a wonderful experience for all involved - a chance to bond as an ensemble, be inspired by musical excellence, and grow as performers. We are incredibly proud of our students for their dedication and the outstanding way they represented our school.
