Democracy BBQ Fundraising in support of the Volleyball Program

News from the Family & Friends of Altona College

Upcoming Events

We’re excited to share that plans are underway for a Comedy Night and Trivia Evening later this year, and we’ll also be supporting school events such as Father’s Day, the School Musical, and the Christmas Soirée. Stay tuned – we’d love to see the school community get behind these great events!

Get Involved

We’re always looking for new members to join the Family & Friends of Altona College. Whether you have lots of time or just a little, every bit helps! We need support with event planning, volunteering, coordinating donations, and promoting activities. If you’re keen to get involved, please reach out to Casey – we’d love to hear from you!

Election Day BBQ

A huge thank you to everyone who supported our Election Day BBQ, led by Mr T and a group of dedicated students. The day was a great success, with a mid-morning sausage shortage prompting an emergency restock – the best kind of problem to have! We’re so grateful to the teachers, students, and parents who helped make the day run smoothly. Nothing says democracy like a sizzling sausage!

Celebrating the Millennium Time Capsule Opening

Last week, we were proud to have Mrs Christine Tseriotis represent Altona College at the official opening of the Millennium Time Capsule. As our longest-serving staff member, Mrs Tseriotis is a much-loved and highly respected figure in our school community. Over the years, she has taught generations of local families – from her early days at Altona West Primary and Altona P–9, through to our current, thriving Altona College.

If you were a student in Hobsons Bay around the year 2000, there’s a good chance you contributed to the time capsules. We encourage families to visit the Altona City Rotary website to find out more about accessing your submission.

Thank you, Mrs Tseriotis, for representing us at this special event. We hope it was a meaningful opportunity to reflect on your remarkable impact and legacy within our community.

Supporting Positive Parenting: The Triple P Online Program

As we continue to navigate the challenges of parenting, especially in a world where things are constantly changing, it’s important to have the right tools and support to help guide our children. Whether you're a parent, caregiver, or someone who works closely with children, the Triple P Online Program can be a game-changer in creating a positive home environment.

What is Triple P?

The Triple P – Positive Parenting Program is a well-researched and practical program designed to help parents manage common behavioural and emotional challenges in children. It empowers parents to create healthier relationships with their children by promoting positive behaviour and building a strong foundation for their child’s emotional wellbeing.

The Triple P Online course specifically focuses on children under 12 years old. This program provides parents with easy-to-follow strategies and techniques that can be implemented in day-to-day life. It’s a flexible, self-paced learning option that is ideal for busy families.

Why Triple P?

Parenting can feel overwhelming at times, and there’s no one-size-fits-all approach. The Triple P Online Program helps parents feel more confident and supported by providing practical, evidence-based tools. It’s not just about fixing problems, but rather enhancing the overall parenting experience, focusing on strengths, and building positive relationships with children.

Some benefits of the program include:

  1. Reducing Stress: The program helps parents manage their own stress by providing simple, effective strategies for handling challenging situations.
  2. Improved Communication: It encourages open and positive communication between parents and children, which strengthens family bonds.
  3. Managing Behaviour: Learn how to encourage positive behaviour and reduce unwanted behaviors in children, using easy-to-understand techniques.
  4. Supportive Environment: The online format allows parents to access the program from the comfort of their own homes, at their own pace, making it easier to integrate new skills into daily routines.

How to Get Started

If you're interested in learning more and enrolling, visit the official Triple P Online website to sign up. The program is designed to fit into your busy life, making it accessible for everyone.
