Education in Faith

Second Sunday of Easter - Year C
Gospel: John 20:19–31
Theme: Faith, Peace, and Believing Without Seeing
After Jesus had risen from the dead, he appeared to his disciples in a locked room. He greeted them with the words, “Peace be with you,” and showed them his hands and side. They were filled with joy. But Thomas, one of the disciples, wasn’t there. When the others told him, he said he wouldn't believe unless he saw Jesus for himself.
A week later, Jesus appeared again. This time, Thomas was there. Jesus invited him to touch his wounds and believe. Thomas said, “My Lord and my God!” Jesus replied, “You believe because you see. Blessed are those who have not seen and yet believe.”
🕊️ Reflection:
This Gospel reminds us that faith is not always about seeing with our eyes—sometimes it's about trusting with our hearts.
Thomas gets a bit of a tough reputation, but maybe he just wanted to be sure, like many of us. Jesus doesn’t get angry with Thomas. Instead, he gently helps him believe. And then he speaks a blessing over us—those who come later, who haven’t seen with our eyes, but who still believe.
Jesus brings peace to his friends when they’re scared and hiding. His first words are not punishment or disappointment—they are words of comfort: “Peace be with you.”Even when we have doubts, fears, or questions, Jesus offers us peace.
🗣️ Discussion Starters:
- Why do you think Thomas found it hard to believe the other disciples?(Have you ever needed to see something yourself to believe it?)
- What does faith mean to you?(Can you believe in something even when you can’t see it?)
- Jesus said, “Peace be with you.” What do you think that peace feels like?(How can we bring peace to others?)
- Have you ever had doubts or questions about your faith?(What helped you through them?)
- Jesus didn’t get mad at Thomas—he helped him believe. What does that say about how God treats us when we’re unsure or struggling?
🙏 Closing Prayer:
Lord Jesus,Thank you for your love and peace.Sometimes we doubt, just like Thomas, but we know you are always with us.Help us to believe in you, even when we can’t see you.Bless us with the peace you gave your disciples.Amen.
