Music Matters
Oliver Twist
A huge congratulations to the talented cast, musicians, staff and crew who brought the beloved Dickens classic Oliver Twist to life last week. They entertained large crowds over four shows (with Friday night being sold out) to resounding applause and accolades.
The production was a triumph of creativity and dedication, with stunning performances that transported the audience to the gritty streets of Victorian London. The cast’s spirited portrayal of iconic characters, accompanied by the dynamic musical ensemble, led by Mr Stephen Cummins, left a lasting impression on all who attended. It was especially wonderful to have talented students from Mercy College and Loreto Normanhurst join us in putting on this show. Their enthusiasm, dedication, and remarkable performances added an extra layer of depth and vibrancy to the production, showcasing the power of collaboration and shared passion for the arts.
Special thanks goes to the production team - Ms Penny Lindley and Mr Andrew Saar for their tireless efforts in staging such a remarkable event and to everyone who supported the show - from the enthusiastic audience members to the hardworking staff and parent volunteers behind the scenes. Your passion and commitment made Oliver Twist an unforgettable experience.
Mothers’ Day Mass
Our choir's beautiful singing really lifted the occasion and included a special tribute to all our fabulous maternal figures in the form of ‘Somewhere over the Rainbow and What a Wonderful World’. This piece featured fabulous solos by two of our Year 6 students, Louis Park and Vinnie Abbattista, accompanied by Mr Jones on ukulele and Mr Cummins on double bass.
Founder’s Day Mass
Thank you to our choristers and musicians who spent time at Oxford Falls on Wednesday rehearsing in preparation for this special mass tomorrow. Students involved the ‘Superband’ - created from the Senior Concert Band, College Orchestra, Drumline and both choirs are required to be at school for departure this Friday at 7.30 am for rehearsal and sound check. All musicians will return to school with their peers at the conclusion of the Founder’s Day celebrations with their instruments. Students to wear mufti as per school instructions.

Oliver Twist Wrap-Up:
The outstanding performances of Oliver Twist have now come to a close, and PAPA would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the nearly 20 parent and carer volunteers who generously gave their time to support the boys throughout this incredible journey.
From coordinating meals for the cast, crew, musicians, and teachers with Domino’s pizzas to mastering hair and makeup techniques, and even lending their utes to transport equipment and props back to the College after the final show, their contributions were invaluable.
A special shoutout goes to our Social Engagement Coordinator, Ms Jana Gibson, whose collaboration with Ms Lindley was instrumental in organising the volunteer effort. Your hard work and community spirit truly made a difference!
Looking ahead, we’ll once again be calling on our fantastic Performing Arts parents and carers to support the upcoming James Morrison concert on 23 May. Stay tuned for more details - your continued involvement is greatly appreciated!

Drama Matters
Oliver Twist
I would like to thank everyone involved in this excellent production. We are so lucky to have such dedicated staff, students and parents who all contributed to making this a worthwhile and positive event. With over 50 students involved we are very happy with the efforts, commitment and creativity displayed by all. The actors, crew and musicians all rose to the challenge and surpassed what I thought was possible. I personally enjoyed every minute and feel very lucky to have worked with such kind and talented young people. The actors consistently came to rehearsals with an open mind and a passion for what they were doing. The performing arts really is the best way to spend your time! I think we had the easiest 'bump in' and the quickest pack up of any show I have been involved in.
Many thanks again to Mr Andrew Sarr who was the backbone of the show with his multiple roles of singing director, producer, and excellent stage manager. Mr Stephen Cummins for the wonderful music which really added to the atmosphere and enjoyment of the whole experience. Mr Brendan Jones was impeccable with his sound cues and extensive knowledge of sound, making the acting and music come together. Mrs Annabel Westhoff who managed the theatre requests, ticketing and supported all of us during the run. Finally, thanks to our wonderful parents for trusting in the performing arts. For supporting what we do and being there to watch and help with make-up, feeding the students and transporting props and anything else we needed. It’s been a ball!
