Reflection
Third Week of Easter
The third week of Easter invites us to continue living in the light of the Resurrection, deepening our understanding of what it means to be a people of hope. The Gospel readings this week remind us that the Risen Christ walks with us, even when we fail to recognise Him - just as He did with the disciples on the road to Emmaus. Their hearts burned within them as He spoke, just as ours do when we open ourselves to His Word and presence in our daily lives.
Easter is not a one-day celebration, but a season of transformation. It challenges us to embrace new life, to move from fear to faith, from doubt to trust, and from sorrow to joy. This week, we are especially called to be witnesses - to live as reflections of Christ’s love, mercy, and peace in a world still longing for hope. In our homes, communities, and workplaces, the Resurrection becomes real when we act with compassion
and live with conviction.
As we continue to journey through this Easter season, may we open our eyes to recognise Christ in the breaking of the bread and in the faces of those around us.
He is risen, and that changes everything.

My sincere gratitude to the beautiful St Pius X community
On behalf of my entire family, I want to extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone in the St Pius X community for your kind words, condolences, and support during this difficult time. The outpouring of love has been truly overwhelming and deeply felt by all of us. Your compassion has brought comfort and strength, and we are sincerely grateful.
I was exceptionally proud of the young men who represented the College at my parents' funeral and formed a guard of honour. My parents would have been honoured to have such fine gentlemen escort them out of the church.
In moments like these, we are reminded of how important it is to be connected to such a wonderful and caring community. From the bottom of my heart, I thank you.
Feast Day of Blessed Edmund Rice
Last Monday was the feast day of Blessed Edmund Rice – founder of a band of men who dedicated their lives to the education of poor and marginalised young people.
Edmund Rice remains a powerful and relevant role model for our young people today. As the founder of the Christian Brothers, Edmund dedicated his life to the education and care of young people, especially those who were poor, disadvantaged, or excluded. His legacy lives on in schools like ours, where his values continue to shape our community and guide our mission.
In a world that often emphasises individual success, Edmund Rice reminds us of the importance of compassion, service, and justice. He saw education not just as a path to knowledge, but as a way to empower others and transform lives. His deep faith and commitment to helping those in need offer a timeless example of how to live with purpose and make a positive difference in the world.
For our young people of St Pius X College, Edmund’s story is a call to action - to be men of courage, character, and conscience. It challenges them to stand up for what is right, to look out for others, and to strive for excellence not only in their studies, but in the way they treat people every day. His life continues to inspire a spirit of brotherhood, service, and faith that is at the heart of our school.
Term 2 - Time to examine our canvas
As we begin Term 2, we are offered a valuable opportunity to pause, reflect, and reset. The excitement and possibilities of a new year may now feel more real and tangible. The blank canvas we were handed at the start of the year is no longer empty - strokes of effort, choices, challenges, and achievements have already begun to shape it.
This is the perfect time to ask:
How is your canvas looking?
Is it beginning to reflect the goals and aspirations you set for yourself at the start of the year?
If it is, keep building on that momentum - stay focused, stay determined, and continue to give your personal best in everything you do. If it’s not quite as you imagined, don’t be discouraged. Every artist reassesses their work as it develops. Now is the time to realign your goals, refocus your energy, and re-commit to the habits and attitudes that will help you succeed.
Each new day offers a chance to make different choices and move closer to the picture you first envisioned. Term 2 is not just a continuation - it’s a fresh chapter with new opportunities. Make it count, and keep painting your canvas with purpose and pride.
Outstanding Oliver Twist drama production
A heartfelt thank you to everyone involved in the outstanding production of Oliver Twist. The performance was a true celebration of talent, hard work, and creativity. To the incredible cast of students from St Pius X, Mercy Catholic College and Loreto Normanhurst - your dedication, energy, and dramatic abilities brought this classic story to life in a way that was both moving and unforgettable. Each of you brought something special to the stage, and it was a joy to witness your passion and skill in every scene.
This collaboration between three schools made the production even more meaningful. The unity, teamwork, and shared enthusiasm demonstrated by all involved is a shining example of what can be achieved when communities come together with a shared purpose. Behind the scenes, countless hours of planning, rehearsing, and fine-tuning were clearly evident, and we extend our gratitude to the staff, directors, and volunteers who supported and guided our students every step of the way.
Productions like this are more than performances - they are experiences that build confidence, friendships, and memories that last a lifetime. Thank you to everyone who played a part in making Oliver Twist such a triumph. Your talent and commitment have left a lasting impression on us all.
We would also like to extend our deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff who made this production possible. All the staff who assisted with the supervision backstage; to Ms Penny Lindley, as Director, your vision and leadership shaped every element of the performance and inspired the entire cast. Mr Andrew Sarr, as Producer, your tireless work behind the scenes ensured everything ran smoothly and professionally. A special thank you to Mr Stephen Cummins and Mr Brendan Jones for their outstanding contributions to music and sound - your expertise added depth and emotion to every moment on stage. Another example of community coming together for our young men.
Mother’s Day Mass and morning tea
Our Mother’s Day Mass and Morning Tea was a truly special and memorable occasion yesterday. Held in the beautifully presented CBC Centre, the event was a heartfelt celebration of the incredible women in the lives of our young men. The space was transformed with warmth and elegance, creating the perfect setting to honour and show appreciation for our mothers, grandmothers, and carers.
The Mass was a moving tribute, filled with reverence, gratitude, and love. Our students participated with sincerity and pride, offering prayers, reflections, and songs that spoke deeply to the love and sacrifices made by the women who guide and nurture them every day. One of the most touching moments of the morning was witnessing our young men present a small gift to their mothers and carers, accompanied by hugs that said more than words ever could. These simple but powerful gestures were a reminder of the deep bonds that exist within families.
Our mothers are often the quiet strength behind us - the ones who support, encourage, and love unconditionally. They nurture not only our physical needs but also our hearts and spirits. We should never take this love for granted or forget the role they play in shaping who we are.
We are grateful to all who helped make the day so special, and to the many mothers and carers who joined us. Your presence made the celebration complete, and we hope you left feeling appreciated and deeply valued by our school community.
My sincerest appreciation to all those who assisted in making the mass and morning tea such a memorable occasion.
Thank to:
• Celebrant, Father David, for his unwavering support of St Pius X.
• Mrs Westhoff, Mr Sarr, Mr Cummins, Mr Jones, Miss Gan, Mr Balboa, and all our talented musicians and wonderful singers.
• All those involved in organising our morning tea: Mrs Brady, Mrs Arena and Mrs Floridia.
• Special thanks to our Support Staff and Maintenance team for their assistance in setting up, printing, communication, and designing the invitation.
• My deepest appreciation to Mr Petrie and the mission team of Mr Di Sano, Mr Balboa and Mr Callow for their tireless efforts in bringing us a meaningful liturgy and a beautiful morning.
