Disco Madness!

We all enjoyed a fabulous disco 2 weeks ago, put on by the Parents and Friends for our students. Thank you to all of the parents who organised the event, decorated, and came along to supervise, and especially to the one and only Disco Queen Amanda Preskett, who planned the disco, organised the music, set up the sound system and lights and ran the evening. What a superstar! Our kids are very lucky to have parents who work so hard to create memorable experiences for them throughout their years of schooling. Thank you, Parents and Friends! 🎵🕺👯‍♂️✨🎇🧡

New turnover bars

We also thank the Parents and Friends for purchasing a new piece of play equipment for our students- triple turnover bars. They are already proving to be extremely popular! You can be assured that all of the P and F fundraising causes you support directly benefit our kids. 🤩

Mandarins

Our kids love having fresh fruit and vegetables to harvest from our school garden. This week, the older students picked the mandarins from our trees and cut them up for all students in all classes to share, to everyone's delight!

RAA Street Smart Sessions

On Wednesday and Friday this week, our early and middle primary students participated in RAA Street Smart sessions. The interactive sessions taught students about being safe around roads as well as how to check and make sure bikes and scooters are safe to use. Students were lucky enough to get some information to take home along with a special prize, including stickers and wristbands.  We are pleased to offer this program, following on the success of Bike Ed for the older students, with a goal of working alongside families to keep children safe on the roads.

Pedal Prix

Last Friday, ten students took part in a Pedal Prix event at Victoria Park. This was the first time in many years that we have been able to run the event, and this has been largely due to the hard work and commitment of a small number of parents. Thank you to these families, our sponsors, and to Troy for offering this exciting program to our older students. Please go to Troy's section for more information and photos of the race.

Parking upgrade

Most of you will have noticed the new bitumen and expanded parking area near the town oval. This has been a major project, many years in the planning! We would like to acknowledge and thank Caroline Croser-Barlow who represented the school on the Uraidla Memorial Parks committee, and helped to negotiate funding from the Department for Education to contribute towards the cost of the upgrade. We would also like to sincerely thank the Parks committee for their work and contribution, and for graciously allowing us to park on their land for many years! What a wonderful community to be a part of.

Farewell Mary!

Our much-loved SSO Mary Engler will be retiring at the end of this term. We are taking this

opportunity to celebrate Mary's contributions at this school. Mary has worked here for many years as an SSO, and her experience as a Speech Therapist earlier in her career has been invaluable in her work with many students. The students all love working with Mary because she is warm, patient and kind, and she knows how to help them progress with their reading and writing, even when they feel 'stuck'. Mary has a long history at Uraidla Primary School; she used to be our Pastoral Care Worker, and long before that, she was even a student here! We will really miss Mary at school, but of course we wish her well in her very well-deserved retirement. You may like to make time to say goodbye to Mary between now and the end of the term. Farewell Mary! 🧡

Cybersafe Families

In the last week of school this term, Tuesday 1st July,  we are hosting our important family e-safety workshop, Cybersafe Families. I do hope that many of you will take up this opportunity to work alongside your children to create a safe home online environment, funded by the Governing Council. You can sign up on Flexischools. Further details below.

I take this early opportunity to wish you all a lovely winter holiday. I will be heading overseas at the end of next week for a 7-week trip to Japan and Canada.  Troy will be very capably filling in as Acting Principal during this time, and Katie Martin and Kelly Charlton will be backfilling the Acting Assistant Principal role for 2 weeks each in Term 3.

Have a wonderful fortnight, everyone. See you in August!  😊
