Over the past two weeks Prep Guy have been very busy learning.
In Literacy we have continued learning how to read consonant, vowel consonant words and sentences, rereading and thinking about what we are reading about, answering questions of ourself and others, making sure we are understanding what we are reading. After your child reads their take home reader, ask them questions about their text to help with comprehension. We have also worked on our heart words with reading and spelling and writing recounts about our weekends. Students are now editing their written work to ensure their sentences have uppercase letters to begin, spaces between words and full stops to end plus rereading to ensure the sentence makes sense.
In Numeracy we have been learning about addition and we have learnt how to add using counters, fingers, ten frames, number lines, with money, drawing pictures and MAB.
We loved our excursion to Gumbuya World and used this to inspire our upcoming learning on an Australian animal in Humanities. We are going to use non fiction texts to research an animal of choice. We are then going to make this animal in a diorama ( box) add the animals life cycle, interesting information and habitat. Students will then be teaching their grade what they learnt about their animal by presenting their project to the class.
Students enjoyed Davina Veenstra, a previous student of Bunyip Primary School share her new book Henry The Bunyip with the Junior team. Students loved hearing about Henry's latest adventures.
We also loved joining in with Simultaneous Story Time on Wednesday, learning about family.
Prep Guy Students Of The Week
Well done to Grace and Elsie who were voted in by their classmates to be the past two Students of the Week. Students are now voting for the student who they think has shown our school values of Respect, Responsibility and Resilience. They get to take our class teddy, Lucky home for a week, have lots of fun taking photos with him and writing about their adventures. Students said Grace and Elsie showed all of our school values. Well done also to Maggie who was voted in by her peers this week for showing resilience, responsibility and respect. Prep Guy are so proud of you all.
Willow was also chosen for showing resilience, catching up on learning she missed when she was sick. Lucy was shown for taking responsibility for her learning, concentrating on her learning and Harry was chosen for showing our school value of resilience. Well done everyone.
We've had a busy fortnight in our classroom! We have been learning new concepts whilst revising others and have spent lots of time focusing on Auslan, particularly exploring how to sign our emotions/ feelings, the alphabet and our National Anthem!
🔤 In English, we have been focusing on handwriting, sentence structure and boundary punctuation. We are learning about recounts, narratives and letter writing whilst exploring comprehension strategies of fiction and non-fiction texts in worded and digital formats. We read "The Cat Truck" for National Simultaneous Storytime this week and have all fallen in love with the story! It is about a cat called Tinka, who goes on an epic adventure whilst also learning about the values of friendship, love and resilience.
🔢 In maths we have explored two dimensional shapes in our world and their features, such as counting sides and corners. We have deepened our place value knowledge by finding missing numbers to 20, 30, 50 and 100 and used our counting and graph knowledge to explore data and statistics.
🌿 Our Gumbuya excursion was incredible! We all had so much fun! We learnt about life cycles, habitats and classifying animals. After our learning rotations, we spent time walking through the wildlife trail... We had the whole park to ourselves! This meant that we could spend lots of time with the animals, such as feeding the wallabies, watching the marmoset monkeys get fed and we were even able to get eyes on the baby quokka! After the trail, we headed to a bird show. We had native and exotic birds flying all around us, one of them even sang opera! Thank-you to our helpers and students for being so awesome on the day, it made the whole day so special.
Some of us were lucky to meet a cockatiel in class last week. We had a student ES in our class and on her last day, Donna brought Charlie in to meet us all. He was so cute and cheeky! He even wanted to sit on some of our heads!
📖 Reading Nights 📖
Congratulations to Jackson and William who are or current reading night leaders! Keep reading students and families! It truly does make such a massive difference to your child's learning across all curriculum areas and their social-emotional wellbeing. Have a look at these cool facts below.
🐆 Leo's Journey 🐆

We all had a wonderful time at Gumbuya World and learnt so much about our animals. We learnt about the Bogan Moth and the Pygmy Possum. We learnt about Mammals, Reptiles, Birds, Insects and Amphibians. We learnt about animal habitats and learnt that different animals need different food, shelter and temperatures to survive.
We learnt about different Life Cycles and looked at the Life Cycle of a Python 🐍🐍
Our Learning
In Literacy, we learnt about writing Information Reports, and we wrote about the Emu in our report. Students enjoyed creating an Emu Habitat and the Life Cycle of the Emu. The students couldn't believe that the Dad Emu sat on the eggs until they hatched and was responsible for finding food for the Emu Chick.
In Numeracy, we have learnt how to collect data, use tally marks and make graphs from the data that we have collected.
This week, we have focused on the book "The Truck Cat" which was our National Simultaneous Storytime book. The students couldn't believe their ears when they were part of over 9 million people listening to the book at the same time. The students enjoyed writing about Tinka's Adventure.
