Cross Country Update

Well done to Ayla and Emma for competing in the Regional Cross Country at St Arnaud last week. Thank you to both families for supporting the girls with the big day! Both ran in very large groups of around 80 students. Ayla came 26th in her group and Emma 7th.

Emma will now be representing LPS at the State Cross Country coming up in July.

Professional Practice Day - Friday June 6th

We have a professional practice (pupil free day) coming up on Friday June 6th. All staff will be participating in a range of professional learning sessions including a deep dive into the Victorian Teaching and Learning Model 2.0. Don't forget that Monday 9th is the King's Birthday public holiday so a lovely long weekend for families coming up.

Change in Maths Reporting

The Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA) recently published its revised mathematics curriculum (Mathematics curriculum 2.0).

All Victorian government schools will start using the Mathematics curriculum 2.0 in 2024 or 2025. At LPS we are using the revised mathematics curriculum for school reporting from semester one 2025.

On your child's previous report, the teacher reported against the 3 strands of the achievement standard for mathematics (Number and Algebra, Measurement and Geometry, and Statistics and Probability). Under the Mathematics curriculum 2.0, your child’s teacher will report against the achievement standard as a whole, providing a single, aggregated score.

As the achievement standards reported on have changed, the first time you receive a report under the Mathematics 2.0 curriculum, it will only show achievement and not progress. For all reports after this, progress will be shown against the single achievement standard.

The VCAA made these changes to help teachers plan their teaching and learning programs in mathematics, giving them more flexibility to support students to link ideas within mathematics and also with other curriculum areas.

At LPS, your child’s report may also have a tick box showing development in the following areas; Number and Algebra, measurement and space and statistics to help you gain a broader, more specific picture of student's growth and development in maths.

For further information, refer to the department’s policy on Reporting Student Achievement and Progress Foundation to 10.

You will have the opportunity to discuss your child/ren’s semester one report with teachers at the Parent/teacher/Student conferences held on Friday 4th of July (last day of term 2 – pupil free day).
