Library News
Hello to our students and staff from the McCarthy Library staff. Throughout this year in the library we have been having fun updating our book displays and changing the displays for special occasions.
We have recently culled some out-of-date resources from our non-fiction collection and have been refreshing our current fiction collection in line with requests, students’ interest at the right reading level and teenage reading trends.
It is positive to see that our efforts are being rewarded as overall library borrowing is up on previous years.
Junior English Class Visits
The English Renaissance Accelerated Reading program for Year 7 and 8 is continuing again this term. Our Quick Reads section is still growing and popular and at the moment, new books are arriving and being put on display in the library so look out for these displays.
The Library is a place to meet up
The library is increasingly popular before school and break times with students playing games, reading books, completing homework, relaxing and chatting.
Overdue library books
Currently our staff are reviewing overdue items out in students’ names. If you have any library books at home, no matter how overdue we are always pleased to see books returned. Check in your lockers, your bags and at home and drop them in the Returns chute at the library counter. We are open to conversations and solutions, so come in and chat to library staff about any issues with your overdues. As always the cooperation of students and families is appreciated in locating and returning the overdue books.
Our 2023 overdue items protocol involves:
- contacting students first via email at the beginning of term with a list of any resources currently out in their name and asking for these to be returned to students to talk to staff if they think there is a discrepancy.
- students and parents are emailed a list of resources to be returned by the end of Term 4 (replacement cost notified beside each item) in Week 7 of Term 4
- class teachers, Mentor teachers and LOSC following-up with students in the last few weeks of Term 4
- Mrs Burke, Leader of Learning in English, will notify parents if English text have not been returned from the current year and the student will be unable to receive a novel for holiday reading for next year until the matter is resolved
- families to be billed for unreturned resources by the end of Term 4.
