Week 1, Term 4

Performing Arts

Prep

Students in prep will continue to practice their songs, dance movements and lines for their upcoming concert, 'Sky Colour'. They are doing a brilliant job memorising their lines, should your child wish to practice at home please utilise the script and lyrics sent last week or see your classroom teacher for a copy!

 

Grade 1 and 2

Students in Grades 1 and 2 will continue to build upon their understanding of 'Safe Dance' as they explore a range of physical dance skills focused on travelling and stationary movement and how dancers use space including levels.

 

Grade 3 and 4

Students in Grade 3 and 4 will be learning their first chords on the ukulele this fortnight and start to learn to play a song. In small group rotations activities will include viewing and responding to a Chinese piece of music 'The Flower Ball Dance' and practice identifying different musical notes according to their values. 

 

Grade 5 and 6

Students in Grade 5 and 6 will be practicing basic chords on the ukulele this fortnight and start to learn to play a song. In small group rotations activities will include viewing and responding to a Chinese piece of music 'The Flower Ball Dance' and practice identifying different musical notes according to their values and their note names. 

Science

Grade 1 and 2  

Is it the size of a ball that makes it bounce higher? We are investigating this by following the Scientific Process and using our iPads as an observational tool. Please ensure your child brings their fully charged iPad to school for this task. 

 

Grade 3 and 4  

Our experiment last week showed us how natural processes can cause erosion. This week we look further into how humans can impact the Earth’s surface and contribute to erosion and other changes. 

 

Grade 5 and 6  

 We are presenting our findings about the planet we chose to research in small groups. Comparing and contrasting the different orbits, rotations and physical characteristics to also ascertain whether there is potential for life on other planets. If we have time, we will be brainstorming our wonderings about Space and researching the answers to the questions we pose. 

 

Physical Education

 

Prep PE

Students will continue to practice the side arm strike. They will participate in activities requiring them to strike a stationary and moving ball with a racquet/bat.  

 

Prep Sensory

In this week’s Sensory Gym sessions, students will participate in several activities and exercises designed to improve their balance, core strength and coordination.

 

Grade 1 and 2

Students will continue to practice the side arm strike, with a focus on monitoring the force and direction of their strike. They will be given the opportunity to strike a stationary and moving ball.

 

Grade 3 and 4

Students will continue to learn the key skills required for the sport of tennis. We will focus on refining the proper techniques for the volley, forehand, backhand and serve.

 

Grade 5 and 6

Students will continue to learn the key skills required for the sport of tennis. We will focus on refining the proper techniques for the volley, forehand, backhand and serve. 

 

Visual Arts

Prep

This week students will be looking at the letters in their first and last name, and create a ‘Secret Painting’ hiding them amongst colour and pattern. They will be using pastels and watercolour paints.

 

Grade 1 and 2

Students will be painting their ‘Bev’ giraffe constructions, and adding eyes and eye lashes to bring their animals to life!

 

Grade 3 and 4

Students are painting their Analogous Zebras using watercolours, thinking carefully about colour choices that sit next to each other on the colour wheel. 

 

Grade 5 

This is the final week that students will have to complete their Buddy Bears. Final touches are being made as well as a birth certificate for each creation. Pictures will be uploaded to Showbie as a keepsake, as they will be gifting them to their buddies later in the year.

 

Grade 6

As Art was cancelled last week due to unforeseen circumstances, students will be starting their clay Grade 6 tile, including their name, year finishing school and any elements that represent them.  

Auslan

Prep

Prep students will continue to explore the signs for the letters of the alphabet, particularly letters N to Z. They will recite these letter signs, as well as participate in various games to help develop this knowledge.

 

Grade 1 and 2

Grade 1 and 2 students will continue to develop their ability to sign the letters of the alphabet. They will participate in a sequencing activity that requires them to read the fingerspelling of short ‘B’ letter words. 

 

Grade 3 and 4

Grade 3 and 4 students will use their knowledge of numbers to begin to learn how to sign the time in Auslan.  They will participate in a simple activity where they will ask for the time and sign o’clock and half past times with their partner.

 

Grade 5 and 6

Grade 5 and 6 students will begin to explore the signs used in Auslan relating to money. They will learn to ask how much an item costs, as well as sign money amounts using dollar and cent signs.
