Prep Wonga Weekly

Week 3, Term 4

🎶 Prep Concert: The Prep concert is on the 15th of November and we are busily singing our songs to prepare for it. We appreciate you rehearsing the lines at home with your child, as this is the best place to learn them. Your child knowing their lines, and speaking with confidence, helps our rehearsals run smoothly.

If you have lost the script, please let us know and we will send a copy home in your child's book pocket.

🗓️ Dates for Term 4: To help you stay organised in this busy term, here are some dates that you may like to add to your calendars:

1st November: Grandparents Day, 9.30 - 11am

15th November: Prep Concert - Sky Colour

20th - 24th November:  Swimming (every day of the week)

🗞️ News Groups for Wednesday 18th October: Using my 5 senses at home (a page will be sent home to assist you with this. You may like to create a Book Creator book, Pic Collage or poster using the information you gather).

📚 Reading

Students will learn about inferring through pictures - inferring is when you use the clues in the picture (or text) towork out something when it hasn't been explained. When looking at pictures, students will consider, "What do I see? What do I already know? What can I infer?"

For example, "I can see the sun and the icecream is melting, so it must be a hot day".

What can you do at home?

-Log into Reading Eggs and find a suitable text (remember to change the age for 5 - 7 years old).

-Assist your child to read their take home book each night and their magic words.

-Help your child to read with expression and fluency as they read.

-Look at pictures in your bedtime stories. Can you infer anything from the photos? (see the questions above)

🔡 Phonics

This week we will be learning the digraph of  'ea' (as in beach), and revising 'ee' (as in tree). A digraph is two letters that make one sound.

What you can do at home?

-Revise the digraphs 'ea' and 'ee'.

-What words can you find that have 'ea' and 'ee' your take home books or magic words?

-Use your sound ring to continue to practise letter names and the sounds they make. Play some games using the sound ring cards (ideas are on the ring).

📝 Writing

Students will use their 5 senses to write a descriptive piece based on a picture prompt. They will also continue to work on their handwriting, using dotted thirds as a guide.

What can you do at home?

-Continue to encourage correct pencil grip (pointer on top).

-Practise writing names in school writing, with one capital letter at the beginning of their name.

-Encourage correct formation of letters.

-If your child writes at home, assist them to hear and write the sounds in words.

🔢  Maths

Students will continue to learn about sharing, specifically about balancing groups. Students will learn about this in a variety of ways, such as through group discussions, playing games, challenging tasks and hands on play.

What can you do at home?

-Explore the Mathseeds app on the iPad. You might want to choose games / tasks that involve the concept of sharing.

-We have attached an online game below that is related to sharing. It builds vocabulary of 'fewer', 'more' and 'equal'.

🌏 CBL - Discovery 🔎

To begin our learning about 'Discovery', we will brainstorm the concept and come up with a class definition. We will talk further about the 5 senses and how we discover new things by using them to explore the world around.

👯‍♀️ Friendology

We have officially completed the Friendology course for Prep. However, we will review relevant lessons and ideas,  and continue the discussions about friendship, to assist with the social development of our students, especially as they start to transition to grade 1.
