Calligraphy

The Calligraphy Club meets every Tuesday during lunchtime and is open to all BEPS students from Year 1 to Year 6.

The club offers a fun opportunity for students to explore Chinese calligraphy through painting and writing activities, helping them to develop their creativity, self-expression and cultural understanding.

During Term 2, students will take part in weekly activities under the theme “I am Creative”, designed to improve their artistic skills, boost confidence and encourage imagination. Each week, students will focus on different themes and techniques, such as trying out different brush strokes to express their creativity in both calligraphy and painting.

This term, they will learn to depict vibrant tropical fruits with three-dimensional, realistic effects using shading, highlights and colour contrast to make their artworks stand out. The club will also explore native Australian plants like banksias, grevilleas and waratahs, helping students understand their shapes and details while developing skills in botanical illustration.

Students will look at native Australian animals such as kangaroos, koalas, platypuses and parrots, learning how to portray these creatures with personality and depth through various artistic techniques. Additionally, there will be opportunities to create food-inspired artworks, exploring shapes, colours and textures by drawing fun and realistic images of favourite foods.

Students will also be encouraged to incorporate calligraphy into their artworks, blending written characters with visual elements to produce beautiful compositions while learning about the cultural importance and history of Chinese calligraphy.

Lessons will focus on using colour contrast effectively and creating balanced, lively artworks that catch the eye. This engaging program provides a friendly lunchtime environment where students can develop their artistic talents, try new techniques and enjoy expressing themselves creatively alongside their friends.

All students from Year 1 to Year 6 are welcome to join and benefit from the exciting activities planned for the term, promising a lively, inspiring and fun-filled experience for everyone involved.

Warm regards,
