Student Voice

Over the past two weeks, we have worked with Omar from Dance Curriculum. Here is an insight into the students experience:

Ene 4A - My class danced to ‘They Don’t Want Music’. The best part about learning the dance was seeing Omar each day because he was funny and made dancing fun. I felt happy, kind of nervous and after the performance, I realised it wasn’t that bad. At the performance I was nervous beforehand but once I got on stage, I wasn’t nervous. Omar was funny and understood us students. He was full happiness and kept pushing us to do better.

Shawn 4A - My class danced to ‘They Don’t Want Music’ & ‘Heel Tap’. The best part about learning the dance was seeing Omar and learning to dance. I felt excited and happy about the Dance Performance. At the performance I did fabulous! Omar was funny and cool!

Zachary C 6S - I loved having Dance Curriculum at our school. During the two short weeks, we learned two amazing dance routines. The first routine, “Fancy Footwork”, was awesome, with an energetic song playing. The other routine was “Heel Tap”, with a sillier vibe. I liked performing both dances on stage. Our dance coach, Omar, was stunning! He taught us our dance routines, taught us how to not be nervous, and prepared us for the stage! Another aspect of Dance, was the game “Eights”, featuring everyone’s own dance moves. It was very nervous going on stage and thinking about what dance move to use. Overall, I loved Dance Curriculum, and it was a fun experience!

Jayson Y 6S - Hi everyone, today I want to share my experience for the dance curriculum. It was fun learning dance and look at other people dance. For year 6, we have two dances, the first dance was called Fancy Footwork, and the second one was Heel Tap dance. In the first week, we basically learned to do all the foot works and practiced it on the second week. On the performing day, I thought it wasn’t fun, but after the preps, and year 2,4,6s finish their dance, there are few activities happened. Our dance teacher Omar invited the parents and teachers to make their own dance move. And at last, Omar also showed some great moves to as. I want more activities like that, because it was fun to do something like that!

Myra D 6S - Hi, I’m Myra Desai! I’d like to share my personal feedback in Dance Curriculum. In the first week, we were mainly focusing on learning moves for two dances, Heel Tap and Fancy Footwork. On Wednesday of the second week, we started to learn to express emotions in this dance. Towards the end, I started feeling happier about Omar’s lessons. Most of us easily got used to the lessons and went smoothly. Omar taught us pretty well on Heel Tap and Fancy Footwork. On the final performance day, I didn’t feel nervous at all. We put in our efforts because we were interested in the dance. We overcame the trickiest of steps in the dance and grew confidence. It was a fun experience to see other year levels’ efforts! My personal favourite dance was Fancy Footwork.

Eugene 6D - I find dancing a fun and engaging way to entertain kids, and that’s what the whole school has been doing the last two weeks. Since day 1, we’ve been learning how to dance with Omar from dance curriculum. Everyday we head over to the MPC ready with a big smile to practice our dance moves for our soon upcoming show. In the end, my favourite part about this entire program was having lots of fun at the dance show, with parents, teachers and Omar, joining along with a game of eights as well as Omar doing some pretty cool dance moves for everyone at the end of the show! I truly find this a very memorable event!

By Renita 6D- The Dance Curriculum was a fun and interesting way to get our bodies moving. Two weeks later the day finally came- all the students came with big smiles excited to show off their moves at the performance- and it was amazing! There were gigantic smiles and I believe that the Preps all the way to the Year 6s put all their energy and effort to show their parents how they had fun all while so being focused. Omar was fun and energetic, we had fun!

By Kurtis 6D - The Dance Curriculum was such a great event! This program was lively and entertaining while giving our body the daily dose of fitness! This incursion was led by Omar, an exemplary Hip Hop dancer. He guided us step by step through our dance routine, ensuring our success. For two weeks we practiced tirelessly, 45 minutes a day, until finally the day arrived. We performed at our best, using all the skills Omar taught us, we brought it all together on stage and put on a whopper of a performance!
