CERES - Gardens for Wildlife Incursions

This term, a team of enthusiastic students, from year 7-10, have participated in 3 incursions to plan, design and build a Wildlife Garden at Reservoir High School. The project is now complete with over 75 new plants and grasses in the garden.

The first session was online and instructor Ellie taught the students about Biodiversity and the need to protect and build habitat for native animals. Students were enthusiastic, coming up with great ideas to support native wildlife within the school grounds.

The second session had the students matching plants and grasses to animal species that they wanted to provide habitat for, and designing garden layouts and planting strategies. As well they learned soil testing and preparation of the area.

The final session was planting day. Students learned to plant, water and care for their plants, to ensure they thrive and provide habitat for birds, insects and animals. The project was a huge success. Students really enjoyed the project and are keen to start a new project. Maybe nesting boxes.
