"Box Kites Take Flight"
Maths Report
An initiative CAT project led by the Year 9 Maths Team.
It was a day of lift-off and learning at Reservoir High School!
Our Year 9 students proudly launched their box kites in a hands-on celebration of mathematics, design and teamwork. The flight event is part of an initiative-based Common Assessment Task (CAT), carefully crafted by the Year 9 Maths Team led by Mr. Jonathan, in collaboration with Sabrina Zhu, William Chen, and Ingrid Qu.
Perfect Weather for Flying
We couldn’t have asked for better conditions. Under a clear blue sky and mild sunshine, temperatures hovered around 22°C. A gentle north-westerly breeze of 15–20 km/h offered the perfect lift for our handmade kites. The sports field was alive with energy and colour, as students took advantage of the wide open space to test their geometric constructions.
Maths in Motion
This project seamlessly integrated key maths concepts - measurement, angles, geometry and trigonometry - into a practical application. Students calculated surface areas, designed stable frames and adjusted tail lengths, bringing abstract formulas into flight-ready reality.

Well Done, Year 9!
Today’s success highlights the power of project-based learning and the joy of applying maths in real-world contexts. Congratulations to all students and staff for an uplifting experience - both literally and academically.
