Dear Students, Parents and Families,
As we reach the mid-way point of Term 2, there is no doubt this term is flying by. In the first half of this term there has been much happening across the school, both in student learning and the co-curricular opportunities students have engaged in. We have had many students representing the school, in various sporting competitions, also with our school Debating Teams.
On Thursday, 24th April, I had the privilege of attending the ANZAC Service at the Kokoda Memorial at the National Park in Ferntree Gully. The service was overseen by the 2/14th Battalion Association, whose men served in World War II in Papua New Guinea. It was there that Bruce Kingsbury performed an extraordinary act of valour and courage and ultimately sacrificed his life for his fellow servicemen and to protect all Australians. I was joined by our School Captains, Rosie and Indi who laid a wreath on behalf of Reservoir High School. Aiden Turker, who is the current recipient of the Bruce Kingsbury Scholarship, presented his award winning poem. Every person present was enthralled by Aiden’s powerful and stunning imagery; it was truly incredible.
The Performing Arts Night took place on Thursday 29th May and what a magical evening it was.
The event had two acts, each filled with an incredible diversity of musical performances, including guitar and keyboard ensembles, dance items, band performances and vocal pieces. The energy of the evening was electric and the audience was captivated from start to finish. Thank you to every student who performed, to all staff involved and to Daniel Luttick, our Director of Music Performance, for orchestrating the event.
The second half of this term will be just as dynamic, including the Year 12 Formal, Cultural Diversity Week, the Reservoir Police versus RHS students Basketball Game and the Showcase Concert “80’s Movies” which will see students from other schools performing with our students in a wonderful demonstration of student talent.
Year 10 Work Experience takes place in the final week of this term. Can I please remind all Year 10 students and their families that Work Experience is a compulsory part of the Year 10 learning program and if you have not already done so, each student must obtain a work placement and have the appropriate documentation completed and submitted, as a matter of urgency.
The Semester 1 Reports are currently being written by teachers and will be published by the end of the term. I encourage all students to ensure all work has been submitted and end the semester having done your very best in your learning.
Kind regards,
Katie Watmough
Principal
